Anyone Seen Flame Damage??????

Well i know that i am fairly new to the boards but hey... I Didn't know where to post this but i think it could count as a appearance/detailing post.

This is my car as of right now. I got a call @ 6am this morning from the Sunnyvale PD that my car had been set on fire... When i finally found out where it was this is what i found out. They broke in through the back hatch. Stole all my stereo components (Kicker L7 12', Kicker DX350 sub amp, Kenwood head unit, Kenwood EQ, Pioneer 6x9's & 4x6's), They also took my 48 cd case full of cds. All this after stealing my car and getting it to the next apt. complex's parking lot. Then they set the inside on fire. The Fire orginated in the passanger side front set and spread. So here are a before pic then a couple of after pics.

And the bad part about all this is the fact i just dropped $4300 to put a new l98 crate motor in it since my old one spun a bearing out on 12/31/02 and seized my engine... Its still feels like its just a dream. I mean my dad and i totaled the amount of money i put into since i got it and it comes out just short of $16,000. And everyone that has seen it says it will be totaled and my claims person from Allstate says i wont get more than about $8,000 for it then.

I think i have to try and think about other things now

If it gets totaled buy it back. You will have a salvaged title but you will get to keep car aka new motor wheels etc...... After a car is totaled you can usually buy them back for fairly cheap $600-1000 depending on the car. At least you could take the $8000.00 allstate gives you to fix it back up or start on a new build up. Good luck and let me know if allstate tries to bs you. I can help out!!!!!!!!!!

Damn brotha, that sucks. That was and still has the possibility of being a sweet ride. I just don't understand why people have to be suck bastards about things. I've had both of my cars broke into and it pisses me off to see what they can do. Ok, so they robbed you and stole your car for a quick drive. But was setting it on fire really neccessary?

I wonder if these guys think before they set it on fire. What would have happened if you were running sqeeze? That's right, a 10lb bottle with a 1000 psi turning into a granade only a few feet from them. What would have happened if you would have cought them? I guess I can understand that it is for a thrill but is the thrill really worth dying for?

I just hope that somebody saw them and you get those bastards. Good luck buddy and let us know what happens.

Eric

Showed my wife the pictures and her response was: "Oh my gosh, I would be vomitting."

Sorry to hear about your car. Hopefully insurance is being cooperative with you.

Other than the hatch being busted the rest of the body is ok right? Your looking at getting 8000, and more than likely the insurance will total your pride and joy. I would buy it back and refurbish the burnt interior. With a few grand you can really fix up the interior really good. G0D I hate car thiefs and punks. Thats what makes fixing up a car only to have all the hard work and money you've invested go spinning down the toilet. My friend had his truck stolen last august on his first day at welding school in Tulsa, Ok. He was soo pissed he spent 1 1/2 days strait searching for his truck. He droped about 8grand into fixing it up But sadly he found the shell of the truck in a junk yard a few weeks later, he confirmed the vin #'s. He only got 4 grand from his insurance.

That's really screwed up. My condolences man. No one should have to go through that. Even though the interior and the glass are shot I still don't think the damage is really all that bad. Is there other damage we are not seeing? I have priced out a new interior at just over $1500 from GM minus the seats and the hatch could be a couple hundred bucks. But that shouldn't total that car. Is there something I am missing?

87ws6, You right about the screwed up part but the way that the claim will work is insurance sees:

bay area will need Repo front and back seats, front and back carpet, console and all the parts that lead up to dash, he will have smoke damage on (dash, headliner, and most stuff that doesn't appear burned but ashy looking), another hatch(if ttops from gm are $1000.00 you can only imagine how much for a back hatch), stero, subs etc....(bay I hope you got your receipts) Damage to paint as the glass broke and scratched it up. also it looks like damage up by his tops. damage to rear of car (cause the idiots probably steped on the back of his car to get in it) and the list goes on. When the estimate is written the adjuster will find out the market value of the car (average z $4000.00) then the adjuster will figure out the value of bay areas car. nice paint wheels interior etc.... It suddenly becomes worth much more than 4000. car is totaled if the damage is close to 4000.00 which his will be and bam you got your self a totaled car. Insurance companies like totaling older cars it is easier and cheaper sometimes. Sorry for the drawn out explanation but you get the idea.

OK, this happened to my car......not thieves and fire, but an accident. The car was "totaled". I got $4500. Bought the car back for $800.

Your rates will be through the roof, and good luck if you ever want to sell it, but for me, it worked out in my favor. And you can take your cash, and the money you get from parting it out...if that's what you chose, and rebuild something else. Also, it looks like just your interior is shot...and maybe some paint. Heck, that's a family member there, you don't kill it because it's hurt!!!

I completely feel for ya' man, but give it a few days and start looking at what you can do NOW, not what you coulda done before. Maybe you'll decide that a whole new direction is in order. Maybe a drag car.....or a full blown show stopper......Just remember to keep your head up!

Oh, and to everyone....

Keep all your receipts and talk to your Insurance about your options. I currently have regular coverage, but I'm looking into special insurance since obviously my car is worth more than book value. Once my interior swap is done, it's getting covered, and I'll post the details of my policy.....cost....coverage etc. etc.

Well, guess its time for a 4th gen interior cause your's is gone. Obviously there is tons of damage to the interior, but what the car from a mechancial aspect? Is the drivetrain gone now too? Or did the fire just smoke the interior. If its just the interior I'm sure you can convince the adjuster to use junkyard values on new parts. Buy the interior out of a 4th gen and go with it.

Yeah the whole interior is pretty much gone since the FD used so much water to put out the fire. What you cant see in the pics is there is a 2 inch puddle of water in the rear well, the back and front floorboards. It might be so bad if i could get in it and start cleaning the water out and **** but the PD wont let me touch it. It was a hassle just trying to get in to take pics let alone actually move anything or remove anything.

Yeah i am currently thinking of buying it back if it comes down to it.

I guess what the current total is $2500 of stereo, a rear hatch, new seats all around, new carpet all around, new interior panels pretty much all around, new headliner, new paint on atleast the back part of the car where the fire singed the paint, and thats all i can tell as of right now. Oh yeah, i need a new front plastic piece that holds in the plastic in front of gauges, new center console trim and mounting stuff, new shift plate cover. Thats all as of right now. But again i havent been able to really look at the front dash or the rear hatch motor assembly.

-James

P.S. I forgot i need a new lock and tumblers for my rear hatch.

Man i totally feel for you , thats one helluva sweet ride you got there, dont let something like this keep you from making it or another 3rdgen even better than it was. you seem to be very calm in this situation, i remember when some A$$holes tried to steal my car, they busted the passenger side lock out, broke the column down and tried to steal it but they were to stupid to figure out that you have to push the clutch in!! they stole some CD`s and the faceplate to my radio but didnt take the whole head unit or my amp or subs, i guess i should consider myself lucky, looking back on it. If i were you id be ready to kill, just take all this bad and turn it into something that is sweeter than before.

best of luck.

Trust me right now if i had a tip of who did it, Me and about 15 of my friends armed with enough fire power to take the PD station down would make a house call. i must add that my Dad and I have both become custom to firing a 7mm at 100 yards and are accurat e to within an 1 or 2. So i dont think they would get anywhere. :-) But anyway right now its more of shell shock still. I still feel its just a prank and my car will show up soon in cherry condition. But i know thats not the case.

Yes keep your receipts the coverage is called add on equipment or additional custom parts and equipment depending on the state you live in. check with your insurance company on the cost it is usually really cheap and has very low deductibles. I have 5000 in add on equipment and it is only costing 20-30 per year buy you have to have comprehensive and collision coverage to get the coverage.

BAY AREA keep us posted on the details..If you can get more pics please post, the police dept. will let you get in there after their investigation to evauate your car. They don't want you messing with their "crime sceene".

Yeah i know about the "crime scene". I just wish they would let me find out if my work keys are still in the console. My boss is kinda on edge knowing the fact that my work keys might be floating around somewhere. Oh well, i guess i wont worry to bad. And yeah i will be checking into getting more coverage that way the next time it happens i will be better prepared.

Is your apartement parking lot (or the one they left the car at) monitored by video cameras? Something to check out. My friend's truck was stolen in college and the gas tank was on fumes when he parked it. They found the truck in a cornfield 20 miles away so he knew they had to have stopped for gas. They caught the guys by checking the video tape at the nearest gas station.

Thats a good thought on the video camera. Best of luck to you dude. That would just suck. You got any enemys?? Or think someone just took it and wanted to be an A$$?? Do you still have ALL your reciepts to prove what all you've put into it???

When my Corsica got hit & totalled out back in October, I was told IF i had my receipts of everything I had got fixed on it in the past 2 years. they would give me that money as well, but I didnt have any.

Unfortunatly, the parking lot doesnt have video cameras but it is supposed to have a security patrol it but i guess he was on his break or something...

i do have most of my reciepts. Well all the big ones like the receipts for the stereo, engine, paint job, etc.... but i dont think i will get everything or even anything close to what i put into it.

That totally sucks.. I can't even imagine how I'd react to having that done to me.. I'd be wanting some blood..

I live in the Bay Area too, probably an hour from Sunnyvale..

If you need help with anything, let me know and I'll see what I can do..

Have u heard of GM Sports Salvage, down in San Jose?

I bet you could buy a whole new complete interior from them for a reasonable price.. give em a call and get a quote: 408-432-8498

True, they are pretty rude... they'll try to rip you off too..

I remember a guy I knew wanted to buy a front end skin for his '86 Trans Am... they wanted him to buy the entire front end assembly.. Then, to add insult to injury, he saw some front skins laying around the yard.. and when he confronted them about it, "they we're for sale yet".. they then referred him to a brand new skin they had just aquired.. $250 needless to say, he got pissed and left..

Yeah, they can really be a$$holes.. but, it's just an option..
