covette rocker covers

I bought the center bolt covette rocker covers because Ive noticed that other people have polished them, Im not sure but I am sanding these covers I just bought from GM and it doesnt seem like there polishable. The GM listing said there magnesium. I think I just bought a pair of rocker covers I cant use, and they were really expensive, can anyone help me on this?

Iroc,
No, magnesium cannot be polished as far as I know.

Torchray, all factory housing were alum. All aftermarket ones like stant are usually iron or something of that sort. You'll need to buy a delco one for the alum. version.

You can polish them, but it might take a long time to get the imperfections out, and they're going to require a little higher maintance than regular aluminum covers. Plenty of people have polished them with good results.

kool thanks iroc....yeah thats exactly what happened. I went and got a stant one...and then sent it to pauls chrome and they told me that it would be well over a hundred bucks to chrome it. Sorrys....im not paying something like that. so yeah i check with my sources and see what i can come up with for an ac delco one.

My t-stat housing is aluminum, I just havent had time to start polishing it yet.

I checked with my local chromeing shop and they said they would chrome them for about 100 can. for each, Ive paid too much for them already so I may as well get them chromed.

Does anyone know a good place to get SLP ceramic coated headers and for the best price?

Yes, those valve covers can be polished. Here is a set I polished a while back, I have clear wrap over the engine, but you can get the idea of the polishing.

When I started to sand them they didnt really look like aluminum, I did a small spot on the side and triied to polish it but it didnt get shinny, so I just took them to a chroming shop.
