Headlight Mod ??

I used to own the blackout headlight covers but ended up losing one going a little too fast on the interstate. After looking at some pics id like to know if you can put tint onto your headlights. This would black them out and yet still use the headlights at night. Is this possible? Has anyone done it?

you could use that nightshade spray tint stuff.

but that would be illegal in most states.

My Camaro had GTS headlight covers when I bought it, and they were the first thing I pulled off. They were held on with little clips. The clips were attached to the inside of the headlight pocket with something like rubber cement, and the lenses slid down between the clips, locking it in place.

They make a head light that is tinted, kind of. Basically inside of the light, the put a screen that resembles a honeycomb. Looking at it straight on it's clear as day but as soon as you look at it at a different agle, they darken up and will eventually go black or what ever color you choose.

I'll see if I can find them later.

Doesn't Hella make something like that? I saw lights like that in my Jeep catalog... they were really expensive.

i know this sounds really ghetto and all but when i posted the pics no one really noticed it especially you guys that can point out the most miniscule(sp?) thing on a car. i got some mesh screen, painted it black, folded it in half and put it in front of my headlights and sorta warpped it around them so it stayed in place. it sounds ghetto but it darkened them up a bit and they are different from the origionals.

gts blackout come on guys think NASCAR, see how much tape helps, they make diferent color tape too, i personaly think that the gts covers not only look good but help at high speeds , with out them the headlight area acts as a wind trap slowing the car down,i geuss im a strong believer in aerodinamics

Tinting spray is actually not black. Spraying it on your headlights will look fine (debatable) switched off, but switch them on and you'll be presented with a purple light. An excellent idea if you want to become more aquainted with your local police force.

if you wanted hidden lights you should have gotten a trans am , no only kiddin , try some nightshade and who cares if its illegal, the chances of you getting pulled over for the lights is so low.

I think the nightshades stuff just makes the lights look dirty.

It really depends on how you do it. I used to have that stuff on my taillights, and I never put a coat of clear over top. After a few weeks (yes, weeks), the lights started to look real bad... almost as if they were attracting dirt. Waxing helped a little bit.

Still, I have my side markers painted with Niteshade and they look great. It's been like that for more than a year and I don't have any complaints.

What about the spray on glass tint found in hobby stores to stain glass different colors? Would that work too?
