how good of a finish
i'm going to try to paint a car before long myself. i'm going to paint it white so it dosn't look to bad if i screw up. i was wondering how good of a finish i would get with a paint gun like a $150 devilbis. i can get it looking pretty good color sanding, but i was wondering how good of a finish you could get without wet sanding. it will be base coat/clear coat if that helps.

Yes the gun you speak of can be a good one. What one is it. www.autobodystore.com has one pretty cheap and it does one heck of a job. I just painted my car this weekend and love it. I used PPG acrylic urethane single stage and it came out great. I used a sharpe platnum HO HVLP.

I am very happy with it. I don't seem to have any orange peel. I scratched it up with 180 grit then went to PPG 1k Omni Primer then blocked it out. Re-primed the bad spots then went back and blocked again. Then sprayed with PPG MTK Acrylic urethane. I learned most everything from www.autobodystore.com message board like this one. Most of the time if you use a single stage paint you will not need to wet sand and buff. Let me know if I can help.
