If your getting rid of your '84 get a 91-92 z instead, ever see a 4 gen engine? They suck to work on.

I work at a pontiac dealer and I will say that the fourth gens are a major bitch to work on the engine. I say keep the car you have now.

KEEP THE 84!! My first car was an 84 Z28, loved it, but needed something "reliable" my past 2 cars after the Z28, have had INSANE problems, I think when I sold my Z28 to some dumb @ss highschool kid that wrecked it seriosly one month later, 4 accidents and blew the 5.7, that the Z28 put a hex on me and any car that I will ever own after that, lol I had Christine II

i think what i am goin to do when i get money is buy a ls1 t56 and shove it down the zs throat and then just keep the l69t5 on the stand and then when i get more money ill get a 98+ ss fire hawk ws6 or something like that

good luck with your choice, and no i would not do an engine swap just cuz i don't have anywhere near the amount of skills needed to swap in an ls1

If your looking for speed with a stock engine go for a LS1, But if your looking for style and hot rod engine, id say with a 3rd genner. Thats just my opinion, Sorry 3rd genners I have one too But a LS1 will kill any 305 with ease unless you have ALOTT of money in the motor. If it was me id get a 90-92 Iroc and drop a 350 in it and do some work on the engine and be a LS1 killer. But thats just my opinion.

They didn't make IROCs in 91-92 and finding a 90 IROC is rare since not too many were made. Getting a 305 to run with STOCK LS1's is crazy enough, and getting one to run with modded LS1's is quite a feat. I don't think anybody on these boards was going to spend all that much money on trying to get a 305 to run with ls1's when it can be done much more cost efficiently with the 350s

I say if you like the 3rd gen body style, then keep it. If you dont like the body style, then sell it.

thats the only thing going for my 84 is the body style
i like how its long and sleek but i hate the performace issue and all the things that always seem like they need to be changed like the seals its always leaking even after getting new ones and my fan doesnt even work and i changed the thing like 4 weeks ago so now im running at 260 degrees

With all those modifications you listed it sounds like you have way to much money invested to ever sell the car!
Sounds like a keeper to me.

Naw, the wiring isn't too hard. I took off all the convoluted tubing so wire removal will be easier and so I can put new tubing on.
I just need to get the PCM pinouts so that I can identify a few wires and start hooking everything up.
I basically traded my 4th gen leather seats for a 95 Formula dash so I may delay wiring until I get the dash.
I may even try to find a 94-95 F-body engine harness and try and see if I can just plug them together for a seamless install.

With my above reply, I was being extremely sarcastic. I dont know what kind of replys jocww was expecting since this is a third gen site, so I threw in a stupid reply to what seems to be a somewhat stupid subject. Here in CA for what most 84Zs sell for, even with all mentioned mods, you would almost be lucky to get enough money out of it to possibly cover the additional insurance and registration cost for a year on a fourth gen.

and thats hardly $200 bucks worth of mods. Anyways as stated the 4th gen will be more expensive at the time, if you got the money and wanna go fast in stock form well you've got your answer. Fortunately the third gen will be cheaper for now (until you start modding then it all goes to hell) So if you don't have the money now you're basically stuck with the thirdgen until you come across some money to mod the hell out of it

You can make a 4th gen LT1 car run low 13's to mid 12's for $600-2000.
My brother may sell his 96 T/A 6 speed loaded and with most bolt-ons for less than $9K.

yea to bad u live across the country.
i dont spend alot of money on my camaro because i have a 65 elcamino that does that for me i just like how the 4th gen firebirds, formulas with the ws6 package looks and since their faster than a ss its a added plus. i mean in stock form i can barley beat a ss in my elcamino and i have a race preped 350 in the elcamino. and they do it with comfort creatures.
so what i think i am going to do is not work on the elcamino for awhile and just save all my money for a ls1 t56 swap. but with this swap what would i have to get i mean i know a new fuel pump but would it be easier to get a tpi tbi car so that way it already came with a fi instead of carb which should mean that there is less wiring i would have to do. right....
