Vinyl Roof
Has anyone ever put a vinyl roof on a hardtop or t-topped Thirdgen?
I am sort of half and half thinking it might look cool on my car, but I dont wanna waste the money and energy to just be dissapointed.

doesn't look half bad to me.. i don't think it would be bad at all -- so long as it's not too flashy like the car in the picture.

Sure get it,if you like rust holes forming on the roof's edges.If/when the vinyl gets a scratch/tear moisture will get trapped under it and rust forms. Looks like crap otherwise.:lala:

IMO, it doesn't even look that good on the classics. I can't see it looking good on a thirdgen at all.

Besides..if you want a convertible look, buy a 'vert! That's how vinyl tops came about...mid-late 60's...all the new gov't mandates on safety, the industry figured it wouldn't be too long before convertibles were outlawed...well, not outlawed per se, but subject to roll over standards the industry knew they'd never meet...that's why they stopped producing them, to save the investment...and came up with the vinyl top, which supposedly had a similar look that the customers still wanted. Obviously, the roll over standards never came about, 'verts are still around.. and thankfully, vinyl tops are dying off instead.

The only car that think looks good with vinyl roof is my 1967 Impala, but thats because it factory and it's gangsta .
Actually it's because I'm a stickler for origionality.
but if you would put vinyl on a 3rd gen roof it would end up eing F.U.B.A.R.ed..

A buddy of mine just repainted his '71 Chevelle- Sunset Orange with black stripes- it has a vinyl top and looks great - other than that I have never seen a vinyl top I liked and I think it would be aweful on a third gen

VINYL on a ThirdGen? PLEASE DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, I just about had a real hissy fit when the guy I had replacing my Convertible top tried to put a Vinyl top on my car. Do you have any idea how many Naugas would have to die to make that Naugahyde? Jeez, fer Cripes Sake. Be Kind to animals!

Only car I've seen that looks good with vinyl tops are 1968-69 Chargers, 1970-72 chevelles, Plymouth Dusters, and SOME 1968-72 Novas. If any of you are familiar with 1/18 scale diecast toy cars and know of Rich Cummings, AKA Scooter, he did this one, which looks beautiful in person.

It looks like a convertible, but with the back... I vote for just get a convertible. Also those tops are more stayfast than vinyl. Vinyl is cheap leather. Those are cloth tops, just like the verts.

I never liked the look of vinyl roofs. When I was originally shopping for a classic muscle car I had decided that if it had a vinyl roof then I would take it off and fill in the holes. Never liked the look ever.

Well on 70 Plymouth Super Birds you had no choice on a non vinyl top. Thats because they hid the welds under it, because of the flush rear window. And they still look cool as hell!!
