? about bringing a car from canada to the USA
Moderators please forgive me for this. I never post off topic material on this site but I am not sure where this would go. I am looking into purchasing a vehicle from canada and want to know what the rules would be to bring it into the united states. What all would I need? Just the registration and inspection and proof of purchase? Would I pay any extra tax? If there is a correct place for this and I have over looked it please place it there and if not go ahead and close it. I have searched the net and came up empty. Any help would be great. Once again I would like to apologize in advance. Thanks

You can likely get all the info you need from your local DMV; if not your state should have something like a customs / immigration office that can point you in the right direction.
I do know that some states can be pretty sticky, my father in law moved to Washington state from Vancouver with his brand new BMW 750 and had to pay in excess of $1200.00 to have his speedometer / dashboard computer changed over from metric (kilometers / litres) to imperial (miles / gallons).
Oh well...he can afford it, *** I hate the metric system.
There also may be varying smog and safety laws where you live, the good thing is that those laws are usually a bit more stringent here in Canada so you should have no problems in that respect.
If you are shopping online and you find a car you like, you might consider getting a CAA inspection done before travelling all the way up here to find the car that looked so ggo in photos is actually a POS.
The CAA is the same outfit as the AAA, and their vehicle testing is very good.
Good luck...even if you are going to suck another classic out of my homeland.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking something along those same lines. I will check out my local dmv.
