Decal removal question....

im getting some original style decals for my formula cause the ones on the car are not the original style font. What would be the best way to get the old ones off the car. Ive heard some people say that they've taken a hair dryer to the decal.....heated it up and then just took it off with there fingernail. any info would help...thanks.

I always used a heat gun to pull off bumper stickers, it works as long you don't keep heat on too long.

Here's what I'd do...

1. Use a heat gun to loosen up the adhesive, be carefull and do it in small sections. This should take the most if not all of the adhesive off.

2. While it is still kind of gummy, use a wash rag and hot water, and gently rub the what's left over. It ought to roll up and come off.

3. Then go wash your car so you'll have a clean surface to stick the new ones on.]

4. Finally, Put those bad boys on...

3M also makes a real good spray that will help get leftover stuff like adhesive off. they sell it at walmart, kmart, auto stores, etc. i don't have the exact name, but it's an auto adhesive remover. it doesn't hurt paint that's cured (anything over a year should be fine), and is clearcoat safe. i used it to help get my tacky, dealer-installed pinstripe off. i also used a flat razor blade, with tape on the ends (raises it up, and keeps you from cutting into paint) to take most of the decal off.

but definitely use some heat.
