How hard is it to learn to paint a car? is it cheaper for someone else to do it? anyone live in ohio that can help me out incase i cant paint it myself? how much? only one layer of silver paint on the car. clearcoat is gone from hood, and top of the car. cheap paintjob on the car is falling off and its getting annoying finding anoter chip or crack in the paint when u wash. email me if u can paint and give me an estimate. wanting the bright blue 87 IROC color.
If you haven't ever touched a paint gun then I suggest you pay someone to do it. Auto body is a trial and error procedure and you learn what methods are best and how to do these things over time. I suggest that you take it to someone that knows what they are doing.
You could always try to paint it yourself. Be prepared to buy a whole lot of supplies to do it. Including good HVLP gravity fed spray gun, primer, paint, sealant, base paint, clear coat, sanding supplies, buffer, air compressor, etc etc.
Just my $.02

Depends on the area. I got quoted here at $3800 for a good paintjob.
"Good" means they remove all weatherstripping, the doors, etc., and paint each part individually.
It also depends on what quality paint you get and the amount of body work needed (door dings, etc.). I have lots of door dings and small body imperfections, so my quote is probably a little higher than some people's would be.

Anywhere from $3K-$20K. It all depends on what kind of paint job you want. How good of paint you want. How many coats of paint you want. How shiney you want it to be. Etc. The average 'good' paint job will cost between $3K and $5K.
This includes good paint (PPG) a experienced painter that does a good job with no skipped processes. Good job meaning no orange peal, runs, defects in paint, etc. They will also strip your car for a good paint job. Meaning removing tail lights, interior door panels, weatherstripping, seals, some body molding, side mirrors, vents, etc.
If you strip your car yourself, then let them prep/paint it and you put it back together...you will save a good chunk of change. It's all about what you want.
MikeInAz has a good paint tutorial at his website. It's not quite finished yet but you get the idea. This can be seen here.
