Question on aircraft strippper?

I am stripping my rims I have the 15 inch RS style. The type of 5 stars that bend in and are not flat like the Iroc style. The type that the rims are painted to match your car's color(i.e. red car red rims) Should the stripper remove the clear coat and the paint? I have applied a few coats and have gotten the clear coat off but they still look gray like they always have. Do i just sand the paint off from here or should the stripper remove some or all of it?

Thanks

It should start removing the paint. It's also good to use those green scrub pads from ACE Hardware to help remove the paint and clearcoat.

I've used the spray kind...just make sure you have a nice thick even coating and let it sit for a good 20min. Afterwards it should all come off pretty easily, the key is to let it sit a while.

Just let it sit for awhile like the others have said. And from my experience the spray stuff doesn't work quite as well as the other stuff that you would just brush on.

No store bought chemicals will remove the paint. This picture was taken after several tries to strip the paint from my wheels. You can see that all of the faded pink paint is still there. I have even taken my wheels to a very reputable body shop to be stripped, and nothing they had would take off the paint. The wheels will have to be media blasted or acid dipped, unless you want to go at it with some 80 grit sand paper. Good luck.

Have you tried the aircraft paint remover? I haven't see paint that it couldn't remove yet. The stuff is amazing.

I used aircraft stripper on my '88 IROC rims. Worked fairly well.

A.R. worked great for me too. Some spots needed to be repeated sometimes with a small soft wired brush or scouring pad but all of the paint came right off my wheels.

3 things not to get that stuff on are plastic, tires(turns affected areas brown) and as someone had said DO NOT!!! get that stuff on your skin!
yeeeoooooowww!!!!!
