Finally got fed up!

Well Im in the middle of attempting to install some headers and do a cam swap but after getting the engine pieces off the motor and doing some cleaning under the hood....MAN! the painted body under the hood looks terrible! Ive removed all of the acces. and radiator and AC rad....

What Im thinking about doing is having my car towed to Roys (thirdgen Resource) down in charlotte and seeing if he would be up to gutting out my engine bay and painting the body panels and installing my engine back in there for me....cause to tell you the truth I dont think I remember how to get all the pieces back on.......yeah I now stupid me!!! but then atleast my engine bay will look nice and clean and painted...

I wonder how much he would charge? or if he would even do it for me...I need to drive down there and have a talk with him and see...

whatcha think? good idea?

Oh boy, do I know what you mean. I wish I never started modding my '91 last year. It needed work, and instead of focusing on the maintnance issues, I dived into the motor. Finally getting it back to stock.

It will get modded more, just at a much slower pace.

When you took the motor apart, didn't you organize the parts (bags, etc) so you know where they go back?

It's not that hard to get everything back together, most of it just fits in. It sounds like you have a daily driver since this has been sitting for a while, therefore, buy a manual, take your time and enjoy your hobby/addiction. In the end you'll proud you did it yourself. If you have questions about what goes where, snap pics and ask, i swapped motors and intakes last year, as many others did on here, we're here to help

Not that this has become a 'tip' thread, but:

One thing that was invaluable to me when I did my cam/head swap were the digital pix I took of it coming apart. Most of the vacuum lines and electrical connections I can do from memory now, but those pics helped me keep the bolts with the part that they held in place.

I always put my bolts in a ziploc bag with a label on it. Makes remembering which bolt goes on a particullar part.

Try it on a 79 firebirds 400 block all the brakets ALL interconnect and use custom spacers to make it work when I got the car nothing was hooked up... O yea because some had ac and some didn't theres two or three diffrent types.... Took me almost 3 days to figure it out and another 2 weeks just to get all the right pullies! Teach me to buy a half dissasmbled car!

...For taking it apart!!!

...at least, for taking apart without knowing how it goes back together!!!

...but there's only one way to learn.

I think you'd be surprised at how well you'd do if you tried to put it back together!!!!!

Couldnt you get it back together by looking at pictures? Sure your first dive into a EFI motor seems intimidating but its not that bad. You can certainly post pics and get help here for anything your confused about.

Ill tell you what Ill trade you situations. I work on cars at work all day long and never even have the time let alone a garage to take my car apart in. I think you may be able to get the thing back together if you go get a manual and follow it all step by step, after all its just a small block It really gets bad when you have three cars apart at the same time like that like I do at work sometimes then all the parts get mixed up because you run out of space to store the parts you have off the car Hell if I lived closer to you Id come give you a hand for a weekend or two just because I miss working on stuff like that for fun and it would all be worth it to help a fellow thirdgenner out.
