Tint and a rear hatch(this question is different), please step inside...
LOL, i certainly hope all you guys have a rear hatch or something is wrong... anyway.... on my car, there's a strip around the hatch where the defroster runs... how many of you guys have tint, and the place didn't tint a little strip on the sides? I was talkin to a friend of mine and he said people painted this spot with black paint.... anyone have any info on this? How hard is it to pain the glass, what kind paint to use, etc etc? Thanks.
the tint shop did the same exact thing when i had my rear hatch tinted, the guy at the shop told me to just paint it with black paint as well, so i used just some krylon spray paint, its not hard to do, just make sure you mask off the area well, and lay domn something on your car and interior so no overspray gets on them, then just go with light coats and let them dry in between the coats, you have to do this because the paint will run failry easily on glass, but just do that until its covered, pretty simple and costs about 3 bucks, hope i helped

I've been dealing with tint shops over the last week and a half on that subject. Some will refuse to tint that area. One shop I found said they would do it....but that area of the tint wouldn't be guaranteed and might come off. My advice is to talk to the tint shop and see if they'll tint it for you. I have no desire to paint my hatch glass.
On a side note, I dropped the 91 GTA off at a shop on Wednesday and came back a few hours later (they said they could do it). Turns out he couldn't do it because of the way they do tint.....by molding the tint to the outside and then putting it on the inside. The 91-92 TA wing covers part of the rear glass and it made it too difficult for him.
Does anybody know an outstanding Tint shop in the Houston area that can do this? I've been to 3 places and received no tint.

A friend of mine tinted my 1st Formula's back window--he went inside of the defrost lines and it came out nice. On the outside I used some black pinstripping tape--thin kind--and just taped the outside of the glass-on the defrost lines--looked good close up and far away!
Didn't interfere w/your vision from inside either.

When I had mine done on my 'bird, the guy said he wouldn't tint that area because it will eventually peel off since there isn't enough glass area for the tint to stick to. He suggested using spray tint, black tape or paint for the area instead. Since I'm not **** retentive, I just never bothered with it at all. It's not something that ever bugged me because 'I know it's there'
On my camaro, since I didn't care, I tinted those areas just to see what would happen and sure enough, the first time I rolled down the windows, the wind peeled one side off. The tint appears to have a very hard time sticking to the grey etched area of the glass. I did stick another piece on cut 'exact' and it looks like crap (since I have such a steady hand) but, it's still sticking.
To anyone wondering what is being talked about, it's the area on the glass here....
On my 88 GTA, the guy at the tint shop didn't tint the area you are taling about, and he took some black vinyl adhesive, and covered that area on the outside of the window and cut it. It looks really sharp. I'll try and get some pictures of it this afternoon and post them for you. Matt

Well, if you had old tint on and had it replaced with new tint, then chances are they scraped the old tint off with a razor blade, taking the defroster lines with it. Which is what happened with my car. So, I guess, with no defroster line means they can tint all the way to the edge, which is how my car is.
Keep in mind this is going on 6 year old tint (3M is the way to go, one piece on the hatch also) and it has not peeled or bubbled yet. Although, if you have power windows, count on the tint fading (in time) where the rollers and felts meet the windows. You cant really notice it, but I can.
About the paint, any kind will work, but the glass has to be totally clean. I'm thinking the vinyl decal would work and look better.
I'll get pics. tomorrow if you want.
