Red to Black paint, good idea?

Plan on repainting my IROC once I have everything else done to restore her. Red is her original paint color and as much as I have begun to like it I have always loved Black IROC's. I plan on keeping my IROC forever so devaluing her by changing the paint means nothing. Also I plan on having her painted right, professionally, with clear coat. None of that Maco stuff that I think is on her now.

Any thoughts? Treads that I don't know about?

Thanks,

David

Where are you in Arkansas?

When they paint the car make sure they spray the door jambs, hatch jambs, the part of the fenders under the hood"fender lip"
Good luck with restoring her

I wash it all the time now, thanks for all the replies black it is. MetalliCamaroRS, you have a sweet ride. Maybe just maybe... one day... mine might be sexy but for now I will have to settle for photos of yours as my background. Again thanks for all the replies.

IMO, no, stay with red. Bright Red especially with black offsets like headlight pockets, louvers, grill, and stripes, or even Z28 stripes.

Amen to that.

Save you loads of money because if you change the color, the right way, you need to have jambs painted, under the carpet, the engine bay... the works..

And black is PITA to clean... and keep clean.

With black stripes and stuff you get the best of both worlds.

Black black black. Makes the car look more modern IMO. I hate 3rd gens with blacked out headlight pockets and a different body color. The black just brings out the mean look for a 3rd gen camaro or bird.

Nah, there are still cars today offset with black and around their headlights also. It gives a meaner, nicer look.

I agree that black is very hard to take care of...but I really enjoy cleaning my car....I clean it everything day...I just repainted it last week.....just wet-sanded and buffed it. I'll post some pictures of it when I get'em back.

I am having the same "delima" with my '87 IROC. Its that maroonish-red as of right now. I am kind of stuck... I don't like the color, but I don't mind it.

I think I've decided that, because I'll ALWAYS have my IROC, I'm just gonna keep it the redish color and then try to find a black IROC or another one I can paint black.

I think it still looks awesome, but not everyone could pull it off.

Some colors were only meant for MOPARS.

I went red to black too on my IROC,got mine painted at Earl Schlob's for $440(i was broke ok) and people tell me my car looks bad a$$,imagine how good a $2000 job would look.i love black,so I say do it,nothing beats the reflection off a clean black paint job, especialy at nite with tinted windows.keeping it clean does suck, but its worth it.if u want a hassle free color get maroon(dark red)it always looks the same, clean or dirty.

One thing to remember is that with black, if your body work isn't 100% perfect, it's going to look like ***. You need perfectly straight body panels with a black paint job. I'd never have a black car for a daily driver. I can't even stand the polo green on my Corvette. Every tiny scratch and stone chip shows up, and 20 minutes after you wash it, it looks lousy again. With the black, you're going to get the tiny swirly scratches just from day to day use, washing, etc. Black only looks good when it's new, or if it's on a car that doesn't get used.

Mine looked pretty sweet with the blacked out pockets,

I may do that to the Formula too.

Oh, and I also went from Maroon to Black.
Just need to get the car done and then painted right.

I think the black looks much meaner.

Black thirdgens look ok. I only really like them when they are perfectly shiney and washed. With other lighter colors like white or silver, imperfections are far less obvious and are not as noticable when the paint fades.

lol.. zepher... the only thing nice in the first pic is your toy you had leaning across. just kidding...
in my opinion. red looks very good, black looks bad ***, white looks nice, but a yellow iroc/z28 would look the best. like meanyellowcamaro use to have.

I was thinking about going to seabring silver, but I repainted her back to her original high gloss black. Looks awesome when clean, but it's a PAIN to keep it that way!

I love black but its the most agravating color to paint. The car has to be perfect like jim said or u will see every wave or dent. Its the most reflective tho its awsome if u get all the orange peal out its like lookin into a mirror.

the biggest problem with black isnt how often it needs cleaning but more to the fact that when you wax your car it is virtually impossible to get rid of the swirl marks no matter how hard you try
