-if you sold them right after the pick, how did you get the car home?
-why sell the rims?
-east coast of the thumb? wtf does that mean?
-how far will you go till you beat that car you keep losing to at the camaro nats?

umm.... i dont know what kind of crazy body parts you guys have over there, but on the east coast I have what I like to call "Fingers" Looks like you guys have thumbs, and thats a start.. but just wait till you get 5 seperate fingers!! its gunna rock!!!
hehehehe. Ok, thoes answers are answers.. but i still dont konw why he sold the Z06's. Not many rims are better looking then them IMO.

lol.....those are some crazy questions. thanks for jumping in steve. pretty much nailed everything for me.
i actually sold the wheels back in june, however it took 6 weeks to build my new custom billet wheels so i kept the z06 wheels on the car until they came in.
i sold the rims mainly because of the way they make the car ride as well as how they are mounted. i never really noticed the difference it makes but being able to go from the same wheels and tires with and without adapters i was able to see how using adapters affects the car and i didn't like it. i also didn't like how far the brakes sat in the wheels. you could not see the brakes unless you were looking straight on at the car which i didn't like especially since i have a baer kit on the car. another really big reason for selling the rims was weight. i took almost 40lbs of rotational weight off of the car going with my new rims and that gave the car a completely new feel as well as a custom look with something that isn't commonly seen.
as far as that guy your reffering too.....i don't build the car for that reason. i constantly find new things i want to do and change or alter the vehicle in someway to fit my style. i'd like to say that i could be done but i don't know if it will ever be finished.

I understand what you are doing.. I was just being a pain, thats all. The Z06's dont look like they have a lot of weight to them, but then again i never picked one up. I guess the custom made rims are hush hush and thats why you wont show a pic or is there a picture floating around and Im just to lazy to search? I hear ya on the never ending project. You and TPIroc keep giving me more and more ideas on what i wana do. What are the specs on the baer kit cause i deff. wana get them instead of a C4/5/ls1/1le brake kit. I heard the front and rear kit were like 1800 for EVERY thing. That doesnt seem bad at all and i would deff. cough up the dough for thoes brakes. I wana do a one off theme car... but i dunno. good luck.
i just don't have a picture of the new rims....
here is a good picture showing two reasons as well.
1. i can't lower the car because the front is a 9.5" rim so it sits too high for me. a 3" fender gap is not acceptable.
2. you can barely see the brakes
3. well, we already know about the weight. ( my stock chrome 16's were 2lbs heavier then the 18" z06's and the new rims are 10lbs lighter then the z06's and i like the style better any how).

heh, if it makes you feel any better.. it looks to me like the black rs doesn't have any brakes to speak of at all!!
eh, good ridance i didnt like those anyways

What kind of wheels are on that Black RS???? I think I like them....what size are they???? Only if you know of course...but I think I like that look, especially with the black exterior....
that's purple haze....
they are 18's and i'm not sure what make although i know they are fairly inexpensive. i'll see if i can find out more for you.

I'm dropped 2" on all four, riding on 18x9.5 rims on all four, with 275zr35-18's on all four (10.7" wide) - I've had A rub when I had 3 passengers. No problems for me Originally posted by Kandied91z

well they don't work for me and i want mine lower then 2". with a 2" drop i would take out a fender if i hit something serious. it just wasn't possible. glad it worked for you though.
right now the front is 4" drop and you cannot do that with 9.5's without body modification.

It could have something to do with the fact that Michigan roads are total garbage... I couldn't believe how bad they were. I recently drove from Canada to Ohio... I never realized how great Canadian roads were, I thought they were just average.Originally posted by Kandied91z

actually the roads are very bad but that isn't why i couldn't do it. i physically could not move the wheels in any more without rubbing the strut and causing fender damage. there is no room for travel.
now my 8" wide front billet wheel i have the car lowered as humanly possible and have plenty of travel for bumps....gfx on the other hand are a different story!

I know we're getting off topic, but Michigan roads rock compared to Ohio. I live in Ohio, and I made 2 trips to the Ann Arbor area and before that the Battle Creek/Marshall area this past year, and you could tell the moment you passed the border, because you went from asphault and construction, to smooth concrete.Originally posted by johnyIROC

Any pictures yet, Jeff? Custom Billet eh? What'd that run you?

surprisingly, it wasn't that bad. I got a pretty good deal through boze for being the first to order my style here in michigan. direct the company charges 980 a rim.
I should have pictures soon.....tpis really screwed me on parts as my custom chip and miniram both are going back for poor build quality. I am pretty upset with them right now since i can't use the car.
it was a pretty good summer. the car was down the first 3 weeks of for suspension and tunning problems. then it was down for 2 weeks because of bad tires. another 5 weeks for the custom wheels to be built and now they say i'm looking at another 2-3 weeks while i wait for my miniram to be fixed or a new one to be made. once the miniram comes back i'll have to spend another 1 1/2 waiting for the new chip to be reprogrammed with the right miniram setup. after all is said and done i can put it in the garage for safe keeping during all the snow storms..........so much fun. :lala:
once i get it back on the road, if ever i will be sure to put some pictures up, but it isn't looking to promising and a picture of it sitting in the trailer won't be much good.

I want to see that 4" drop in the front, and i don't care if it's sitting engineless in a dusty old shop with poor lighting......It will still look good.....

I can't wait looking at a 4 inch drop with 18's....For me, a thirdgen must be dropped at least 2 inch. Everything else looks only halfway good if you have stock rims. But on the other hand, i think that 4 inch may be too much. I have cut half a coil off my 2inch intrax springs, and have now a 2 1/2 (guessing) in front. How aould another 1 1/2 inch look, i dunno....
that's a bit more then 2" from stock height....
pretty close to how mine looks. very nice.

Do you have any pictures of the rear wheels? Two questions, How many inches did you lower the front and back? What size tires are you running?

Already looked into it a couple of months ago: Wheels 17" front ...18" Back brand Eneki ...bad news Discontinued.
Question, Kandied91z:
Will you have an air ride system or is that a secret?

actually right now it's dropped using coilovers but i would like to do an air ride system.....just can't justify it yet.

eastz28, if you do a search i'm sure you'll find out all about his car. i know my front wheels are 8x18 with 245. it would not be possible to drop the car as low as his or mine with a wider tire hense the reason why i got rid of the z06.

Graboid, when you get a chance could you measure the width or the lip from the edge to the actual face of the rim. i'd like to see what the difference is in sizes between the two of ours.

LOL, you and wheels, you're a wheel *****

There are very few thirdges around with a good set of wheels. Non-stock wheels smaller than 18 inch in diameter never look good, imo. And as we know, the larger the rim, the smaller the fendergap has to be. That means that a 2 inch drop is the bare minimum. There are some cars on this forum with 18 inch wheels, but they do not have a good stance, because they are not lowered enough. Sure, lower a car that much may bring you some trouble, but if you want the look, you have to pay the price.

Yes, I highly agree. A certain rim can really make or break a car's overall appearance. I stayed safe with my GTAs, look good now, but some Boyd coddington Tuned rims in 17" size would look even better.
Sometimes just the addition of wheels makes a car go from dull to awesome, especially wide rims in 16" or larger.
I'm glad you sold those Z06 rims. I don't know why I really like them on TPIROC's car but not yours.

stance has alot to do with it..i like the z06 rim just not on my car. it didn't turn out the way i wanted it.

Aaah, Thanks! I was getting a little sad reading all the "Glad you sold those, Kandied" until that. I think with the stipes, new school badging, and stance, it turned out well. However I think they did look good on Kandied's ride, but with some classy looking billet wheels, the car will look like a serious bruiser; the whole package will be much more intimidating - a real no BS look.Originally posted by devianb

Hey Kandied91z you think the rims that Graboid has will effect performance on a camaro. I mean it will be better getting some weld pro stars but just to look different have a fast car ,but with some 17 or 18s on it and droped alittle.. what do you think? I have a 500 hp 383 im getting built you think rims like that will effect my performance much..
graboid has 18" boyd hotrods. do i think those wheels affect performance? yes, every wheel can alter a cars performance as well as tire combination.
500hp is alot, obviously you'll need to be sure the motor actually makes that much but 400 rwhp will definatley need some sticky tires to accelerate. you have to figure out what your overall purpose of the vehilce is. if you want looks and ocasional 1/4 then a nice 17 will suit you good. if you want great looks and handling but could care less about 1/4 tracking then 18"+ is the way to go.
the larger the rim in size and width obviously the heavier it is so you will affect performance in that manner. rotational weight really makes a difference so you have to take it all into consideration. if money isn't an option you can pick up 18" billet wheels that weigh as much as 16" cast wheels and not only have the looks but you will actually help the cornering capabillities with a smaller sidewall.
it all comes down to you budget and the your goal....

why would it be better to get weld pro stars? they aren't lighter, they aren't cheaper, and they don't look better at least in my opinion. the only advantage to going with a "racing" wheel such as weld and their different designs is that they offer many different widths so for drag purposes you could get a nice matching set of skinnies for the front and a really wide meat in the back.I mean it will be better getting some weld pro stars but just to look different have a fast car ,but with some 17 or 18s on it and droped alittle.. what do you think?
