How to painted engraved flames in valve covers/breather lid
Changing my entire top end of the motor and need flare for the for the Vortec newer style valve covers and needed a breather lid to match. They are cast aluminum with engraved flames approx. 1/16" deep. Since my car is red and these are some plane looking peices IMO I want to color the flames red so they'll stand out. So how do I do this without spending the rest of the year fine line tapeing, there's gotta be a trick to this, just don't know what it is, so any experience with this is needed thanks in advance.

Are you talking just the flame outlines in red? The sunken in part, right? If so, that's fairly easy to do, especially in powder coating. Spray the powder on, the use a flat block of wood and a paper towel pulled tight around the wood to wipe off the powder from the high spots before it's cured in the oven. Email me if you want me to coat something for you.
You can also pull it off with paint, but it's a bit more work. Paint it with a small detail brush, then use a sanding block or block of wood with a paper towel wrapped around it to wipe off excess. Use the high quality paper towels with the tigher weave for better looking edges (like the blue Scott shop towels). Use thinner to clean up the detailed spots that don't wipe right off the first time with the dry towel.
