Shaved Antenna?
Who has their Antenna shaved... What I am wondering is what did you do so that you could listen to the radio again? I was thinking of running a wire antenna but I am not sure where to put it.
If you just dont listen to the actual radio, need not reply.

ive heard a couple answers of what people have done..
some put the antenna under the dash
some put it in the fender.
others buy a hidden antenna.... some of these go under dash, some have a small wire to put somewhere in the car, others have a metal tracing you're suppost to put on the windshield.

i like my power one, when the cars parked and off its down, but when im driving its up, ive thought of disconnecting the motor when its down so its always down, but that probably just make it look broken
i love the look but reception will never be as good. best solution is to put the stock piece up under the dash. i've tried just about every option out there and the stock piece gives the best reception and it's cheap!

I got sick of mine within two days of owning my car. I picked up a slick looking flex one from the local car store
and I really like the look. Shaving antennas is a pain in the butt, maybe something like this is more up your alley?

Mine was broken, so I cut it off and covered the hole. Then got an antenna from K-mart on clearance for 5 bucks. This winter I'm going to put it under the dash pad.

My 87 has the antenna shaved and I haven't gotten around to putting an antenna in to get radio. Has anybody successfuly used one besides the stock one under the dash? I don't like the idea of just hanging the sucker up in there....seems kindof like a bandaid for the problem.

Some of the street rod shops sell an electronic antenna (had one on my 63 Nova SS), and they work pretty well and are more compact than a factory antenna. It just has a short length of cable, with a black box on the end that can be double sided taped or velcroed somewhere under the dash. They're about $50 or so. Still, the stock antenna picks up as well or better, its free, and theres no evidence its even there.
BTW I'm a big fan of shaved ANYTHING (antenna, locks and door handles on my car; antenna, locks, handles, and gas filler on Redraif's), but if you don't have the skills to weld up the hole and repaint (or the $$$ to have someone do it for you), I'd advise not doing it.

I got some new pics today and decided to post one of the shaved antenna. The car's dusty, I know. She's waiting for some color-sanding and buffing.

I shaved mine but dropped a hole in the rear driverside quarter panel just in front of the spoiler for a power antenna. I ran into problems when the rear hatch was raised at the same time that the antenna was up. The power antenna lasted about three months. Now I have a stubby 45* antenna like what you see on the roof of some imports.
I'll get pics if anyone is interested...

I just shaved my antenna and I went to my local customs shop to get one of those stealth antennas and they told me that RadioShack sells a hidden antenna for like $20. I have not been to get one yet, but I will stop by there today and let ya'll know what I find.

can someone shoot a pic of ecaxtly were under the dash they put the antena? Where does the original wire come from? WHere do you have to reloate it to?
lol....
you cut the base of the oem antenna and you just put it up inside the dash wherever you can......it sounds like a "temporary" fix or a bandaid but when it comes down to it it works and it's cheap so you guys make the decision.
i have tried almost every antenna on the market from dakota digitals untenna to the radioshack 9.99 special. they don't work nearly as good as the stock antenna stuffed up the dash. if you don't like that idea or just cant find the room you can also place it vertical along with the driveshaft under the center console but you will get reception about as good as the other more expensive units. why pay 9.99-90 dollars for something people have tried and know don't work as well as something you already have for free....?

you just reroute the wire up through the holes in the metal dashboard under the dash pad (remove the pad) and lay it in there and put the pad back on... pretty simple

I bought the stock one form autozone for nine dollars. It is under the dash pad. Pull the pad i ran the wire right up and fabbed up a little bracket to fit to a small bracket that was under the pad directly above the center of the dash. The antenna mast runs from the center to the front of the 4x6 and into the pass. corner of the windshield. The reception is good i need to re adjust the bracket a little to get the antenna off of the windhield but the mast isnt touching any of the metal of the dash. one of these days i need to pull the stub out of the fender and get a small piece to weld into the hole then fill and just paint over till it goes in for the full repaint. I think it looks alot better
