Kandy paint
Check out the color of this chevelle. Has anyone painted a 3rd gen this color? The guy says...........it is "House of Kolor" Kandy tri coat system. When you paint this system, you can make the top color as dark or as light as you want by applying more coats of the tinted clear.
Looks good if u ask me.

"Kandied91Z" I beleive has a similar paint job on his thirdgen. It looks absolutely awesome. Hopefully he'll chime in on this thread.
Yep, kandied's car is by far the most beautiful thirdgen I have ever seen. If I remember right, it's a color he custom blended himself. Looks very similar to the color you are showing.
I hope he doesn't mind me putting this pic up

sorry guys i've been in the garage working on the winter mods this weekend. the most popular house of kolor kandy paint is called brandywine which is basically what you see there. the darkness and depth is dependent on two things. basecoat and the amount of layers of the dye clear.
for my color i have a custom mix of gold and silver heavy metallic base coat that is about 2-3 coats thick. then there is the red "HOK" dye that in my particular application is only 4 coats. afterwhich there is one layer of blue pearl and 3 coats of clear. when i had the car painted i wanted something that was close to the stock dark metallic color but when the sun hit it you had to wear sunglasses.
for the truly deep candy paint jobs you can be looking at as many as 15+ coats of paint through the different stages. however this is not only very expensive but it's impracticle for the street. having paint that thick will chip and flake off very easily. it's better reserved for trailer queens.
candy paint isn't expensive in materials but labor is very intensive, if one coat is messed up you have to redo the entire car so when your looking at a min of 3-4 coats for a tri-stage you can see how the expenses can add up, however when it's done right its one of the sharpest types of paint colors out there.

thanks for the compliments guys, i don't have any good night pictures but another added bonus depending on how thick your top dye layer is the base coat will come out. at night under a streetlight my car turns gold which is something to see. here is another angle to show how the color can look solid. you can check out more pictures on the site below.
here is a pre-stage....this was one of the first attempts. had problems with the chemicals binding so i later had to strip the car to metal and do it right. lots of work but it was worth it.

Nice car!
Those are white neons right? I always thought they looked out of place on a camaro but that picture just changed my mind.

Well, I like mine best because it's one of two made, but that's neither here nor there....
My vote for best would have to be either Mr.IrocZ with those factory painted 18" Irocs or Crazy Hawaiian. Kandied, you're up there too. That paint is cool....
I would hate to chip that paint...like you said earlier.

yes that is the white light....it looks much brighter in person. i use to have yellow for when the car turns gold but i got sick of it so i just have the two color set now of white and red to alternate.
thanks for all the compliments as i appreciate it. i wasn't trying to take over the thread just showing different aspects. if you guys like what you see just wait......
thanks again, if anyone has any questions in particular to the paint itself and the process feel free to email me.

I was jsut wondering is there somthing youcould do with the orange lights on the back, I know a bunch of talon guys that take translucent paint and paint the inside where it's orange red, to make it match the tail light, just wondering if third gens could do that too? Espeically on your car, that would make it pimp...just a thought...

I haven't raced 406-Z yet, but he was behind me on 1960 and watched me tear a yellow C5 a new arsehole on the way back from the JCI show in Humble.
And dont worry, I wont pick on ya till you get your new motor!

A88GTANotchback - THanks man! If you know anyone who will host the .mpeg 's , I'll be recording a street pass or race of my car (digital cam mounted inside the car on dashboard of passenger side).
CDN_87IROC - I had the outlets (tailpipes) re-made by local exhaust shop. You cant see any of the exhaust unless you get down real low (pic was taken low).
