I haven't driven the 87 around that much since getting it back - but it's normally making people second glance, open their eyes real wide, and rev their exhaust.

Should have seen the looks Sonar_un and I got as we paced each other down Hwy 90 That was awesome

i think my car has a lot of potential...ive always wanted a black car so i can go with the whole stealth look. Right now the car is stock so it leaves a lot to be desired

everyone that sees it says "why the hell did you get rid of your other car for this?"

I get quite a few compliments on my car. My wife likes my car, but she is really into older muscle cars. She also likes the 80's monte carlo ss's alot, and reminds me that she liked my 85 ss better than my camaro. At least I know what kind of car I am going to build for her when I am done with mine. By the way she absolutely hates r***, but likes a nicely done import.

I have been getting mixed reaction when I tell people about the car...stuff like "why did you buy that" and "ugh...those are crap"....but then I introduce them to it and they are like "WOA!! you never told me it looked like THIS!!!".

I showed the pic of it to a lady friend of mine, we play video games online together and well she is a big camaro fan. When I showed her the pic of the T/A she fell in love.

Girls are always telling me that my car is "sexy" and "awesome".

I didn't buy this car based on anyone elses remarks, I bought it cuz ever since Knight Rider, I always wanted a Firebird or Trans Am. However if peeps are giving me props on my ride then by all means let the props flow

My car's a big hit. My dad even keeps trying to steal it. Chicks dig it, guys like it. I even get looks from some of the "thugs" driving caprices on 20's. I've seen guys driving rediculously nice cars give a neck breaker checking mine out. Guy in a newly restored absolutely gorgeous 40's hot rod vert was gawking at me yesterday, I even had a guy in a new saleen almost break his neck. Is't not amazing or anything, you just dont see cars as old and clean as mine a whole lot...I need more of them!!

I love my car and I tell ppl that all the time. Then they ask what kind of car I have and they oo and ah when I say "Trans Am." Some ppl leave it at that and then ask what year it is. When I say "83" they either assume it is a piece of junk or is extremely slow. Niether of which are true. My car only has 43,000 miles on it and has been extremely well taken care of. Some ppl think it's 10 years newer and would guess it brand new if it wasn't for the older styling. Also, the crossfire V8 may not be the fastest third gen, but she holds her own against my friends' Z34 Monte Carlo's and turbocharged volvo's. I can dust most other cars at school and when I get it out this spring w/all the new performance parts I'm gettin' I don't think anyone at school will have a faster car. One thing is for sure, though, no one has ever seen my car and said something bad about it. Oh, there is one thing that really ticks me off and that is when ppl get a look of utter confusion when I tell them I don't drive it in the winter and I explain that there were only 2500 25th Ann. Daytona 500 Pace Cars made and that even if it wasn't a Daytona it's still way too nice to drive in the winter. And then, they'll say, "it's just a car." oooooo, never tell me that my T/A is "just a car."

Most of the time, people are astonished to see a third generation Camaro that's not beat up or rusted apart. There are only a few nice ones that I know of, locally, and one of them happens to be my exact duplicate.

I get a lot of stares, for whatever reason. That happens when I'm driving my lifted Jeep, too . I guess I make a statement.

I experienced this a few years ago. Fortunately, it's a thing of the past... I guess people wised up or something.

my car gets a good response at car shows where people can see under the hood, or when people get a good look inside the car

and people that know anything would think twice if they heard it at an idle......the general public however probably just assumes its some retard with a ****** in a car with a new paint job and loud mufflers.

in my experience girls are not impressed with 3rd gens, but its funny when the ricers show up at the track with their valet model girlfriends and get spanked by the evil black 91 camaro, and their girlfriend says "how come he always wins"

and my favorite of all time "how come he doesnt have to fix his car now"

i love the fact that people seeing me drive around think my car sucks from the comfort of their 150hp ****box that they cant change the oil in

LOL the same thing happens to me when my friends (who don't know much about cars) ask me what kind of car I drive and when I say Trans Am they automaticly think Smokey and the Bandit (one of my favorite movies) and asume I have a black and gold T/A with huge hoodbird and shaker scoop. Even after I tell them it's a 1985 Then they see my car and they act not as impressed. But i could really careless if they like it, It's still the best looking car in the school parking lot

All but one of my friends drive ricers, so they all hate my car. Everybody else at my schools either drive brand new BMWs, lifted trucks, or ricers, so mine is the only 3rd gen camaro The ricers constantly rag on my car, but thats cool, just wait until the race me. And as for friends, they to give me a hard time about it; one day I was taking 2 of my friends home and they started ragging on my car, and to make a long story short, they ended up screaming like girls on the corners My mom absolutely hates it, my brother hates it, and my dad and I are always working on it, but I dont care, i LOVE it!

But as for the girls, they oddly seem to love it. Im always getting looks from them (good ones) and they just love my interior, so Im happy.

no one knows my car, since it hasn't been registered in the 8 months that i've owned it

my gf hates the trans am, cuz i spend so much time working on it, but she bitches at me when i talk about selling it.

i really loved when i had the 87 camaro, that was in pretty good shape, so i got the occasional compliment on that.

I have always gotten good feedback on my Thirdgens since I first bought one. People seem to really like the ASCD SS or Ram Air I hoods, too.

The 4th gen has also gotten a lot of compliments, just not as many as my thirdgens. I deffinately prefer the Thirdgen as a car over the 4th, just like the powerplant and the tranny.

My girlfriend loves all but one of my cars... she says the 90 hates her. But the other 5 she loves.

If you want to defend the thidgens reputation like I do by street racing newer cars and showing them up, dont buy an LG4!! People hear its a v8, beat you, and can say "I whooped on a v8 camaro today! one of those old ones too!" I am dieing to have a 350 TPI, soon....soon.....

Also if you have a v8, people ask if its a 350, I say its a 305 and they totally disregard it, the only thing to back it up is its a 5 speed.....none the less.....THIRDGENS 4 LIFE

Depends...

Some chicks like it. But most see it as I didn't have enough money for a new one (dead wrong).

The muscle guys don't like it when I go to the local cruise nights. I get a lot of looks like "What the hell do you think you're doing here. '74 or earlier only welcome here" and others are like "I don't trust it. Don't see a carb. Can't be reliable." I've found maybe 1 or 2 classic muscle owners that at least appreciate it.

Kids love it. They usually run up when I pull in at the local spots.

1st gen guys hate it because it doesn't look anything like their concept of what a Firebird is.

2nd Gen guys love it, mostly because they want my rims.

3rd gen guys at the local spots love it because its the only one with less than 3 different colors and no primer.

I met one guy with a sweet C4 and he liked the car because of its condition.

BTW, its funny how C4s, C5s and Fox Mustangs are welcome but late model F-Bodies aren't. I wonder what's up with that.

I get mixed reviews …I get a lot of neg. feedback because no one seems to like 3rd gens.?? WHY?? When you tell someone “I have an ’85 Trans Am “ they look at you like its nothing but an old beater or a POS.
I went to one car show this year and overheard someone say “ look he just brought his regular car.”
I do get some positive too, mostly from car guys who can appreciate the work I have in it. I do get a few comments on the hood like , “is that stock?”.
And it drives me nuts when someone calls it a firebird, or a camaro.
I also get the “Its just a car!” when I don’t let friends smoke, or leave trash in it, or lean up against it.
I went to a cruze in this year and some total stranger came up and leaned his big fat *** on it to talk to a guy parked beside me, like it was a public bench…. I almost lost it!!!
Everyone says I’m obsessed.

One things for sure,, no one thinks its cooler than me…

well with the Black Iroc, everybody liked it, except for the V6 mustang kids. but they respected it b/c they knew it would rip them a new one.

The blue one everybody i guess likes more b/c it's a prettier color(not in my opinion), the 86 i didn't have long enough for people to like.

Overall it's a good vibe from people at my school, and anybody who knows anything has liked them

Once i was walking out of the grocery store and i saw some soccer mom set her 4yr old son on my t-top while she loaded her car. To make it even better, he was screaming and kicking his feet on my window while she was on her cell phone!!!!

I was so pissed, if it had been a guy and not a woman there would have been blood spilled. Instead i just plopped my fat *** down on the hood of her minivan. When she screamed at me i just told her that if my car was an f-ing day-care center then her car could be a couch.

Needless to say, i left a rather sizeable cloud of white smoke when i left that parking lot.

Holy crap Scott's85T/A, that comment "oh look he brought his regular car" is messed up. That's a sweet t/a, what is up with people?
Why do thirdgens have such a bad rep? I love 'em, but they really seem to have a bad rep, and that part kind of sucks. arghhh!

I had that happen once, but I was laughing too hard to do anything about it. I had just got my car not 2 months before hand and I went to a movie with some friends of mine. After the movie got out I was walking out to my car with them and I spotted a guy leaning up against the rear-end of my car. He was just chatting away, then he just happed to look in my direction while I still had a good walk left. He stared for a sec then when he realized I was walking towards it, he looked down at the car, then slowly sat up and started walking away....
Wonder what he was thinking as I dropped a lung laughing?

i think the reason they're not appreciated is this....

they're not old enough to be considered collectable classics.

they're not new enough to be considered a technologically advanced performance car.

they were made in the 80's... which i hear is one of the worst decades in american history (i was born in '85', so i wouldn't know)

they got tons of emission equipment... they were choked for power... wooo 155hp LG4.

most that people drive are junk

they still have the "*******" image (so my college roommate tells me) he asks why there isn't a confederate flag on it

it seems like there are a lot more v6's on the road than v8's... so when someone street races, they're probably racing the v6... so people think they're incredibly slow even tho they're "performance cars"

on the bright side, they're the only car from the 80's that still seems to be desired.. think about it... how many other cars from the 80's are still wanted....

they seem to be in that bubble between old and new.

Most people like my car. When I first got the car it was butt ugly and I quickly worked on the appearance so that it would not look like another wore out POS. I wanted to make sure it did not look like a "Redneckmobile..." (I'm a good ole boy after all... LOL).

My car is a vert so people look anyway. What is interesting is that before I began working on the car I almost always got comments from people wherever I stopped. Usually something like "Nice Car!" after beginning the refurbishment of the olegal I no longer got as many comments from strangers. I guess they either thought I was stuck up or something. I still get lots of comments but not like before.

I have never been a "Look At ME" kind of person. It was a bit un-nerving driving the car after getting it back from paint, rims and tires. I felt like everybody in the world was looking at me as I drove down the road!

The bottom line: The car is fun, and the car makes me happy. So if anybody doesn't like the ole girl that is their problem but it doesn't bother me.

I get varying responces, some like my sisters BF ask, "Nice car, you gonna put stickers on it?"

Others say, why do you bother with that piece of ****? Usually ricers, and ignorant 4th gen momma boys are asking that. Makes me want to drop them where they are. I worked my *** off to get my car.

Even worse though, is when I go to a cruise night I invariably get the following comment. I'll be walking around and when I come back I see some people around my car, pointing out various things. I come up and ask them what it is, the usual responce is "Its a Turbo TransAm!!!"

My usual reply is, "You sure? It doesn't look like one to me." They point out the badges, and the nose emblem. I just get in the car and start it. ^_^ Then I ask, "does it SOUND like a v6 turbo?"

I get depresed because I WISH it was a TTA.

Heheh, that's the exact reason I take the extra minute to lock mine now ever since the day my uncle thought it was a convertable latch and tried opening it when I took him out for a test drive. Gah Glad they have locks.

i am parinod some ditzy person will be like umm wander what this does when im driveing down the road. Id kill them hahaha I know some ppl loseing there sunroof and stuff from not being in tight.

The coments i get on my car are pretty much every kid yells somthing or gives the thumbs up....on young fella stading in front of his house with his dad gave me the signal to lite up the tires so i took the corner and did some fishtailing for the guy....maybe he'll grow up hating front wheel drive cars mwahahaha.
I get some ppl try to tell me they used to own my car then im like no it used to be blue i got it painted, then there like umm maybe
I also getting ppl at work teasing me calling me IROC and stuff and one lady loves to tease me calling it a clunker car cause it smells (no cat w/ flowtech muff)thats why. They always say "go buy a new muffler that one sounds like its shot. I just laugh.
I also got another guy teasing me saying your ganna wash the paint of that cause im always doing something to it. Then they laugh and say im syco cause i sit on the ground and polish my wheels by hand.

But some of the good compliments on it i like are:
-Sweet car man its in good shape then they ask the yr and i say 87 there eyes pop.
-Wanna race, how fast is it
-hope you take care of your women as much as you take care of your car.
-can i drive it (i always say ummm not thats ok haha)

none the less i dont care what ppl think of it if they give me **** i just say who are you to tell me my car sucks,,,,no one cares what you think, wake up!!!
Some times the constent attention gets anoying sometimes tho if yur in a rush and you got ppl wanting to talk to yah asking classic stuff like is there a big block in it? What does it do at the track? Could you beat such and such of a car? What color is it, is it a custom color? Is it a real Iroc? stupid stuff like that!

Speaking as a chick, our cars can be SO sexy, I don't get why more chicks don't like them. I love the sleek lines. I also love lining up next to some ***** kid that thinks I have a wuss of a car, and just blow his doors off. They're always like huh what happened? In general I get a crapload of looks when I'm driving it. Im sure the fact that my car is jet black, blacked out, and kept meticulously clean helps.. It just SHINES in sunlight.. and even looks great when its cloudy. I know I can't help but stare at a really well kept car, yeah a new car looks nice when its clean, big deal its NEW, make a 10-20 yr old car look nice, that actually takes some work. I also like getting comments on mods I have done, most people don't think "just a girl" can do stuff like that

lol t top locks, a must. My mom and my dad have both almost unlatched them while saying, "whats this latch do?" im like "NOOO!!! dont pull that" Im getting alot of comments on my car now, even some people dont like my rims, they make it stand out, and with the clear side markers and large long chrome tips. Gets alot of stares, espically when people pass me and see me banging on the dash to get the speedo to work

Car: Camaro of course
People like my car, I think if you pull it off right anyone can see it's a nice car, be it a Camaro, vette or CRX. But since it lives in the garage for the most part I haven’t got a chance to show it off lol

Honda Civics! HA! And here in SoCal, that's all you see! Gangsta Civics with their whiny little mufflers, LOL! I'm like, get a REAL engine!

Yeah, even though my Formula's an '87, I still get "nice ride" A LOT and looks anywhere I go when the tops are off. It's unfortunate that the thirdgen is a rattley bucket of bolts, lol. But I don't care! In these cars, you FEEL the grip and the road! I love it!

Roxieshotrod- That is really cool that you have a thirdgen, and to make it better, the mods you have. THat is totally awesome. A few female friends of mine think it is sexy, and LOVE t-tops. How cool it would be to have a gf that owns a thirdgen.......even if it would be faster than mine......look at sig.

LOL. Right after my black '87 Formula came in, my gf bought a red Formula. Yes, that was pretty cool to see them in the driveway together.

The people who love my car are my dad and his friends, my sister, my friends, my brother, and some others i suppose.

Its funny how people will hear "camaro" and think its a v6, just because im only a junior in high school and i dont have much money. then I inform them that its an IROC and they get all excited about it and ask how fast it is when i reply that it will put you into your seat pretty well. then i normally have some ford guy walk up and start trashing it, saying that a mustang will eat it. i tell them if they want to race then to not pull any of that stop light to stop light crap and lets put some turns into it, they shut up really fast.

my sister's exboyfriend is the only import owner i actually have respect for, hes got an acura integra thats fast as hell. also hes got a nice little 67 chevelle thats immaculate. he knows my car is fast too.

rarely do girls say ive got a nice car, but thats because they only see the *** of it in my driveway, theyve never actually given it a once over. once i get my liscense they will all know "dan's car" because its going to be the only iroc in the parking lot at school.

all in all though i know people loike my car, they all hear it when i get on it and it revs high as hell in 1st gear then takes off when it shifts into 2nd. gotta love the 2.73's.

Just bought mine, took to body shop today. Usual comment is "what the hell you going to do with that"? Answer, "give me time".

the most used comment is "light em up" when they say this i make a point to give it the least bit of gas possible. my favorite thing is that everyone wants to race me, and ALL my friends love it. they talk about it sooo much. even people i dont know talk about it. i love it. although some of my friends think that mustangs are better....they still like it tho.

Thirdgens arnt appreciatd much.. because they're picky cars I guess.. No factory dual exhaust ..heavy doors.. heavy overall ..
low roof.. anything really sporty about the car will be used against it I find.

The third gens are ferrari-esque I heard once.. which is true..
so theyre from the factory low.. low roof , low seats.. which
is what a REAL sports car supposed to have.. but ppl will
always nag and bitch.. if they had a ferrary.. they wouldnt bitch..
they have an affordable version... so they do .

Im glad that my Z28has flaws and isnt perfect .. leaves room for
customizing.. fixing it up.. and more ...

Not a lot of ppl around me likes my car.. and the ones who do
bitch about the flaws.. and then ask to drive it lol

I think I would have an empty space without my 3rd gen .

I wanna play too...

When I got the car, I NEVER thought I'd hear the end of the ****** comments. My cousin actually gave it the nickname "******mobile".... which stuck for quite a while...

But I can see why... when I got it, it had the ugly wire mesh headlight covers, it was so dirty that some dirt seemed to be part of the paint, the engine was burning at least 3 different fluids and the engine looked like azz.

Since its had so much work done since then though, its gained alot of respect from him and some others who felt the same way. The 350 thats in there now is a nice combo of blue ('79 350 color, new paint) chrome, aluminum and black... not just gas, grease and gasket silicone like before, lol.

Its pretty well known at school now too... last spring it outran (and this is no joke, i still have a hard time beleiveing) a '96 or '97 Mustang Cobra auto on the highway about 3 blocks from the school.

Just out of the street though, I get the occasional "nice car" and/or thumbs up... my favorite one was from a black '69 Vette summer at a traffic light "Got a nice sounding engine" and a thumbs up.

This from a '69 Corvette!!!

I must say, I love 3rd gen's almost as much as anyone in the world. I am also a big fan of 67-68's and 70-73 camaros. However, I grew up looking at the first IROC and just falling in love with the body style. I was never a big fan of GM's idea of power under any hood of the 3rd gens. I have a 91 camaro, however, I replaced the paper weight motor for a carbed 388 stroker and now I have the best of both worlds. 3rd gens have to be one of the worst cars to do a carb swap on and get totally ready for all out drag racing. Parts are not cheap and the computer situation sucks bad also. But, it's all worth it to me, shes loud and makes tons of people turn there heads (even the cops) so I am just happy as a pig in s-h-i-t!!!
