Engine color?>FlameRedMetallic

I've got a 88 Flame Red Metallic GTA, I've just got down with modifying an lt1 intake and am ordering pro-lightning 200's in a week or so. I need to paint this thing and I can't find anywhere in town that will mix high temp paint. Originally I wanted the match the paint but If I have to spend $30+ for a pint of just plain enamel that may or may not hold up I'm not sure if its worth it.

What have you guys used for your blocks, intake, heads, etc. and how does it hold up?

I just painted my remote thermostat ford red, bought from a local parts store. The paint looks, good and covers very well, but I'm not sure if it would look good: BRIGHT Red under the hood of a flame red mettallic car. The fins are polished on the intake along with the area just in back of the throttle body. I'm keeping MAF for now and I think it'll look good with the MAP ports blocked off.

What do you guys think I should do for paint and color?

Yellow is an option but a little ***** and I can't imagine doing the block and heads in the same color. Also a PITA to keep clean.

Black looks ok, but not enough bling for me. Easy to keep clean, but looks stock.

Red, my first choice right now. Its the color of the LT4 intakes and IMO looks great on black or red cars, but I'm not sure about my car. Also I could match the color from the tops of my injectors down to my spark plug wires.

Flame metallic red-Have a paint store mix me some enamel. It would match the car or be really close. Not quite as much bling, and probably won't last as long with the underhood heat. It would also cost considerably more than a $6 spray can.

Post some pics or links and help me make up my mind. Thanks for reading all this.

Finally detailed my engine bay . Click on pic in my sig for more colors.

Come on nobody here has a decent looking engine bay on a Flame Red metallic car?

Anybody got at least a good looking red intake/heads/engine?

Whats the best engine bay you've ever seen?

I'm just searching for some inspiration here

Not a V8, but I do have something close to Flame Red Metallic.

I really wanna get the plenum painted. Maybe I'll pick up a spare one at the yard next month.

I like the valve covers. What type of paint did you use on them and are they holding up?

It's the same paint that was used to paint my car. They're holding up pretty nicely, except I do need to clean the engine bay since its dusty. I believe the paint shop used a DuPont paint, Cherry Red Metallic. They just painted them for me for free.:lala:

With proper block prep you can use standard paint for the block and heads/accessories, i've done this before, but now i'm more into black engines. With a good self-etching primer (even spray-can) the paint will hold, i had mine done on my 63 tempest, it was teal green metallic (92 camaro color) and it held for 4 years till i sold it. It was base/clear, i've seen enamel work good too.
