Need to give my cars paint a good shine

All I really know about keeping a car shiny is to give it a wax atleast every year but I think my GTA needs some extra attention, it has loads and loads of small lines in the paint, very thin and very numerous everywhere, you can't see it unless up close, I guess I need more than just waxing this time, I've heard about some process where you "take off" the outermost layer and polish it up again and put on a new layer of wax for protection.

Care to give any tips? so far I've been reccomended some Meguiras products, some clay bar and something I don't recall what it was named

well if you really "knew" about paint you would know that waxing isn't necessarily the best option. however not to say it's wrong for your car but if you have scratchs or in what seems to be your case swirl marks (guessing since i can't see the car) your waxing is not only accenting the scratches by filling them with a substance that makes them stand out but is adding a fake layer of depth (much like clear coat) that is also accenting the scratches.

swirl marks and small scratches can be rubbed out with the proper rubbing compund. however the best way to keep them from appearing is to know and maintain proper car care paint maintenance.

again not knowing exactly what your problem is in the paint i can't truly advise but best bet is to wash your car well, use a product to remove the wax like a clay bar and then use a fine grade polish compund to help remove the problem areas. if in fact you have scratches that are deeper then simple swirl marks you either need some touchup or a repaint as none of the above will help you.

a good rule of thumb to determine what you have is to wet the paint with water and run a thumbnail across the scratch, if you can definately feel the stratch without looking compounds won't help you however if it's very slight or not noticeable that way then there are products you can use to take care of it.

I have marks from someone putting something like a paper sack on top of my car and then dragging it off. Not deep at all but they made the clear coat opaque. Hopefully I can polish them out.

as i said, if you can catch it with your nail it's iffy.......

i can understand your postion though.

once i was pulled over by 4 police cars.....long story....when i was removed from my car for questioning the rookie officer took my taco bell cup and slid it across the roof of my car.

needless to say it didn't feel to good getting hit by the supervising officer but i don't think the rookie ever did that to another car like mine. luckily the scratches rubbed out!

Well I've only had this car for around 3 months, dunno what the previous owners did.

That was the advice I got, to get a clay bar and this other polishing product, there are no large scratches, they are like swirl marks, only visible up close in the right light, you can't feel them if you run your fingers over them.

I wasn't sure, I wanted more opinions, maybe product reccomendations and such as well.

Sofar the only reccomendation I've gotten is Megiuras.
