I just bought a set of formula wheels today, and I noticed that the rear wheels are in much worse condition then the fronts.
I also noticed the same thing on a different set of formula wheels.
Why is this?
Kinda makes me want to leave brake dust on.

Are you sure you are looking at the rear wheels? I had a plain jane firebird with the 15 inch formula look alikes. Brake dust tore up the wheels on the front.

I'm positive it was the rear wheels that were in bad condtion. I'll get a pic sometime soon.
I don't think brake dust would keep a wheel's finish in good condition either, so I hate to fuel your fire even more, lol, BUT... the clear coat on my Formula's rear wheels disintegrated years ago, but it's never happened to my fronts.
I have 4-wheel discs, and my fronts get very dirty while my rears get very little brake dust. Yet, the front wheels are good, and the rears aren't. I've never tried to figure out why that is, but it couldn't be due to a lack of brake dust, lol. But interesting to know that it's not just my car.

Does anyone else have this same problem? You guys are scaring me, I just bought a Formula with mint wheels and I dont want to destroy them by not taking preventive measures.

Well, after thinking logically it is probably not brake dust.
I don't know the process of the wheels being coated and what type of coating they have, or how much clear coat was used. All of that influences how bad the wheels look now.
It's just a weird observation that the front wheels were nicer then the rears.
Judging by the peoples experiences, their are too many variables to consider the clear coat coming off for 1 reason.
So I wouldn't let your wheels be dirty thinking they will look nicer longer.

Good call. I just picked up ceramic pads for the car. They keep the wheels clean...

It's from lack of cleaning.
Most people will only clean the front wheels since they get really dirty. No need to clean the rears since they still look good.

brake dust does attack the finish... so while the fronts that were heavily coated get cleaned, the rears hardley ever get washed, and they end up not looking as nice.
