headlight bucket size difference 82-84 85-87 88-92

last year i was cruising down the freeway when my headlight cover flew off in traffic.

so i checked out ebay for another set, (this was december) found another full set with an extra driver side -the one i was missing! so i now have 2 full sets, but the ones i bought look slightly different, they have more of a cutoof corner at the top. didnt try them on the car until now and the new ones dont fit, they slide right off because they are a 1/2 cm too small. now im sure i can modify them to fit but.. thought id just let the word out there

I know for sure that the 91-92 headlight doors are a different size, because they had a totally different nose. I believe the ones on my brother's 85 are the same as the ones on my 89, but I'm not too sure on the ones before 85. I'd imagine 82-90 would be all the same, since it was the same parking/head light setup, just different motor styles between 82-86 and 87-92.

82-84 is most definetly different than the 85-92's.

I just compared the covers from the lights on my 84 to the ones I'm putting in with my new 87 nose and the looked identical to me, just the ***** looked different.

So does someone have a definitive guide as to which years headlight buckets looked like what? I just noticed that the passenger side unit I got at a swap is not the same as my original on the drivers side. different shape in the corner, and smoother lines on the original. I should have brought the original with me, but being a newbie, I guess I learned the hard way. Anyways, once I figure out what it is that I got, maybe I can swap it for the correct one. I seem to recall that they used to have a reference book at the library that had pics of front ends of car models from every year and the changes....... It has been a hell of a long time since I've been to the library though... maybe it was just a dream?

I think he's talking about a blackouts for acamaro, not a firebird's covers, in which case there are 4 diffrent noses- 82-84 standerd, 82-84 berlineta, 82-84 Z-28/pace car, and 85-92 all. I believe all the 82-84 have the same size buckets. The reason they changed the nosies was because the us dept. of transportation came out with a rule that said you coulden't have receseced turn signals, so GM redizined the nose to make them flush.

so are 85-92 noses all the same except for the bottom ground effect vents on the 91-92? Everything else equal?

according to my parts catalog there all the same, but for the 85-92 it dosent spesify a berlinetta, it just says standerd, Z/28, IROC and R/S.....hmmm I'm begening to wonder, the berlineta only nose's last year is 84 (by the way I'm using Classic Industries catalog and my personel experince for refrence, I cant find my camaro book, I think I packed it up already), mabe they used an old nose on your car at the factory, was it bought in canada, dose it have slits across the nose, between the headlights?

No slits, both buckets are identical in regards to cosmetics. Its only the angle , shape and size of the corner of the bucket that makes it different form the "unknown" one that I got.
