were these rims really meant to shine ?
1984 trans am.
i've done just about evreything to try to get these rims from looking so dull, ( except that aircraft stripper stuff i read in the sticky ) ... but i think of it, they arent like normal rims, that have a flat surfact i can scrub at, just like a hundred spokes...
does anybody else have these rims on a bird that really do shine ? if so ... what exactly did you use to do em... all is hopeless here.

I may easily be wrong but, those wheels aren't any special cast metal and won't polish out to a nice luster like a aluminium or mag/alloy wheel.

Can't really tell by the picture but some of the early wheels had a disc cover on them, didn't have a surface polish or machining. Might be best to shine the outer rim as possible and paint the inner area with a good metallic gray or dark silver type paint.

So don't bother trying to improve them... just replace them with a better design. I agree that unless for some reason you're in love with that design, replace them with either Formula or Crosslace rims that are more easily polished.

I hear what you're saying about not having the money for something, but you can get rims at a junkyard that are easier to polish for cheap. You might have to look around for a while, but used stock 16" rims don't cost that much unless you buy them from a specialty company. Even some of the 15" rims can be polished up nicely. just something to consider

Mabye center caps would improve the look of those rims.
I never really liked that design though. You should be able to find some 15" Formula style rims for a pretty good price. They would look much better and you would be able to polish them.
