Tinting Back window

I read the tech article on tinting but when im cleaning the back window (tacking off the old tint) do i have to be careful around the deforsting lines. Also can i tint the back window bymysel or is it 2 person job.

Well you should be careful of the defrosting lines but if you never use it or it doesnt work anyways, I wouldnt worry about messing them up at all.

I think the back window would be difficult to tint yourself, thats why I just pay a company to do it and get a lifetime warranty so if it bubbles they fix it for nothing.

You are correct in thinking that. It's a royal PITA to do w/o getting some dirt in it and, even using a hairdryer to help it wrap the contour, it still wants to peel/bubble untill it's dry. If you're not concerned about that though.. go for it.
Gila (most common self-tint in this area) has vastly improved with their newest tint. It's still a dyed film but, it doesn't have the tendancy to turn purple.
I helped my bud do our work van using the new stuff but, we had to use 1 roll of the older crap (they didn't have enough) and from the inside, you can clearly tell which window it is. It's been on for almost 2 years now and hasn't turned like the 1 oddball window.
Most pro's use a metalized film which basically never turns color. I forget what's on my firebird but, the color is completely different inside looking out.
Top is the bird (pro tint) bottm the camaro (Gila, me-tint). Both are blurry because I just leaned in the window and snapped the pic.

yeah place areound here gave me a quote for $105 todo the read the sides and top of front in 5% limo tint. I thought it was an awesome deal since its a lifetime warentee. I even asked is that one sheet for the entgire rear panel and they said yeah. II claled everyone else and i got quote like $150, $125, $115. All kinds of stuff. I guess since i asked a mexiancan shop(the opne who offered $105) they like to give it for cheaper, i dunno. Pretty awesome IMO.

I'd highly recomend gettigna pro todo it d00d.

Please.... and don't take this as ragging on you because it really isn't (and I'm drunk and doing a better job)... please take a small amount of time to type a little ledgible english so the rest of us know WTF you are trying to convey.
It's not that what your are'saying' isn't important, it's just that a good majority of us have no friggin clue what you are trying to 'say'.
Thanks to my cryptology software, I can understand but, not all of us are so fortunate.
Just slow down and type slower... it's not a race to see who can respond the fastest.
If, not just for me, you can do that... I can almost bet that you'll be taken a little more seriously.

wow, you guys have found shops that give lifetime warranties on every tint they have? i called like 8 shops before i got mine tinted, and they only had a lifetime warranty for 35% (darkest legal tint, which is barely even tint at all). i got 15% and just have to hope they did a good job and it doens't start to look crappy

i was only looking to tint it myself because we had the back glass off the car for painting and really didnt want to take it to a shop right after the car was painted (really dont trust anybody), but its either that or buy a bunch of cheap tint and practice a few times before i try it with the good stuff

Deadbird your bird looks awesome.

alright heres what i was trying to say

yeah a place around here gave me a quote for $105 to-do the hatch, windows, and top of front in 5% limo tint. I thought it was an awesome deal since its a lifetime warantee. I even asked is that one sheet for the entire rear panel and they said yeah. I called everyone else and i got quote like $150, $125, $115. All kinds of stuff. I guess since i asked a mexican shop(the one who offered $105) they like to give it for cheaper, i dunno. Pretty awesome IMO.

I'd highly recomend getting a pro to-o it d00d.

Now its legible.

What an ***. You never cease to **** me off with your lack of tact.

I would question a place that would tint all of that on your car for only $105. Ask if they use 3M tint (the only tint to use, IMO). What is their warranty? It might be lifetime but what does it cover? We all know those Mexicans like to do things cheap!

Paipe: definitely go with a pro shop. All you need is deadbird's pictures to see what a lot of hard work could end up as without experience (hehe... sorry man!). If you're just learning how to tint yourself, the rear hatch is not a good place to learn. Start with the side windows if you're really set on trying this yourself. Or get some spare glass from a junkyard.

Ha ha,, Cayse.. no offence taken at all . I did the tint on my camaro for $0.. I recieved a $50 AZ car for xmas and I wasn't about to pay $235 for 5%. The color doesn't bother me really, the bluish hue is actually a little easier on my eyes on sunny days. And the clarity, as said.. blame that on the picture taker.

Thanks Paipe. And I'll agree with using a pro. If your car has any value to you, you'll want it done right. That why I had a pro do 'bird and I did my beater.
