This has nothing to do with car appearance, but you being a cop, I had a few questions. I am 16 and I am buying a Camaro from my dad. It is going to have headers and a high performance exhaust, so it may be a little loud. The paint on the car is absolutely perfect also. I will be driving it around all of next summer. Do most cops like to pull over these kind of hot cars for no reason? Do I have to be worried about this? Will they try to bust me on the slightest thing? Also, can you get a ticket for accelerating too fast? Not burning out or anything, but just hittin the hammer? What offense would this be. Thank you.

 

hey man, im not a cop, but ill give ya my two cents worth of knowledge...

Around here, they ticket fast jumpers for what they call "unsafe starting". Its all they get us for, cuz when thwy show up on our boulevard, we all chill.... And as for pulling us over... I have had one cop follow me for seven miles from work to my gf's, while i did six mph under the limit, and he was radaring the entire time... When i signaled to turn, he pulled out next to me and harrassed me abuot my tailightas not being bright enought and i quote him "YOUR LUCKY I DIDNT REAR END YOU CUZ I COULDNT SEE EM!". I have also been pulled over for not having a front licience plate, while i was traveliing on the highway. I wasnt speeding or anything. Surprisingly, they left me alone at the border to canada, but i dunno. My car isnt popular. Ive been followed town to town driving perfectly on several occasions.

Got my winter rat out (1989 pontiac 6000LE wagon) and i havnt been tailed once yet.

And oh yeah, they even ticket people like us for revving around here. "Improper use of a motor vehicle" they call it. I likemost cops, they are great and have a tough job, but when one puts his siren on b4 an intersection, crosses ther ed light, and shuts it off, as ive seen THREE do here (THREE), i think THAT is improper use of a vehicle.

from what i can tell u is around here there are a lot of sports cars. many people have shift kits u cant help the sqawking of tires at low speeds. as with the loud exhaust.. i guess it depends on the cops descretion of loudness if u are piping every car u see then that is abusive if u are going down a hill at a considerable amount of speed and drop down a gear that would be abusive then the time has something to do with it also if its at night keep the sound down thats just curtisey.also 82 and prior cars dont have to have cats but newer ones do and as admrln said picking up speed quickly is considered reckles driving. as for cops picking on younger kids i dont think that is all true most young kids are just dumb and dont follow all the laws and learn the hard way but if u are responsible with the car if i saw u i would give u the thumbs up!!!! let me know if u have other questions..
