Repainting small area with base/clear
Repainting small area with base/clear
I've done enamel patch work before, but never worked with base/clear coats. The rear bumper on the IROC was hit hile parked, and some paint has come off a small section about 4 x 2 inches. IS there any special to apply the base/clear coat?? With enamel i just sanded, painted the color and waxed it later. Do apply the base coat, then right away the clear, or do i compound the base before applying the clear etc.
Thanks guys

I'm not a fan of blending because it's not as durable as a regular coat of paint, but unfortunately it's done often because it's cheaper than painting a whole panel and color matching tends to be more forgiving.
Anyway, wetsand a large area with 600-800 grit paper until it's not shiny anymore. Don't overdo it because factory clearcoat isn't amazingly thick. Paint the color over the affected area (duh) then go 50% to 100% farther with the clear. After it dries, wetsand the whole un-masked area with 1500 until you can't feel any overspray or that sort of crap, then buff the whole panel.
