T-Tops VS. HardTops

Im posting this poll to finally find out what the members of this board prefer as far as liking t-toped or hardtoped thirdgens. I have heard a lot of different opinons on this subject and I personally think that it all depends on what you plan to do with the car. But Im sure many members who are trying to decide whether to buy a hardtop or t-toped car aswell as other members would like to know what the final numbers would be on the opinion of this board to the subject. And I have included an "other" choice for those of you who prefer convertibles etc.

I like the T-tops the one or two weeks a year I can take them off. But, I really prefer the nice clean lines of a hardtop car. BTW, I've owned four 3rdgens, two with Ts and two hardtops.

I also think that hardtoped cars look cleaner and I personally think they look better but it would also be nice to have the luxury of t-tops, and if you can avoid problems with them leaking they would be great to have, but I have also heard that big problems happen when you have t-tops and a lot of hp.

now if i was to modify extensivly then i'd want a targa option...

have to go with the hardtop, id never have a t top thirdgen or 4th or second for that matter. They disrupt the clean lines . But to each their own and thats why thiers both . I think either way , whatever makes you happy.

Yeah, but is there anything better than cruising whether at a car show or at VA Beach with your t-tops off and your car shining??

. . . I think not.

I have T-tops and I wouldn't trade them for anything. there really isn't anything better than crusing on a hot day with the tops off; espesally (sp?) when I'm heading to the lake to go for a swim.

T-Tops All the way!!!

T-Tops, especially since mine is a nice day only cruiser......nothing nicer than driving around on a nice summer night with the tops out, and seeing the stars above!

The only downside (besides leakers) is how hot the car gets inside on a sunny day with the tops in (on a long drive..etc.). I need to find a set of filler panels in tan!

maybe the t-tops don't look "clean" when they're in and you're up-close but from a distance they don't look any difference and when they're OUT I think they look a lot better than the hard-tops... and they're deff. better when you're driving whether they're in or out... when they're in you have two cool moonroofs and when they're out you've got the wind/sun on ya.

you can tell a mile away wether a thirdgen has t-tops or not. 4thgens are much cleaner in retro spect and i definately wouldn't have a 4thgen without them.

I'm with Kandied on this one

Targa top has both the hardtop and T-top owned....

But for those of us who made the mistake of buying a hardtop camaro, we're gonna have to settle for a nice power sunroof.....

I love my t tops. They serve their purpose and it's not to look good. I tend to be warm even in colder temperatures so they can pretty much come off anytime. While we're at it, does anyone know the weight difference between the plastic and glass t tops?

So what if it's not as "clean" as a hardtop?! T-Tops make it look good (and alot better IMO) whether on or off and the black makes a nice contrast by breaking up the color some, even looks good on black cars.

I think 4th and 2nd Gen T-Tops are lousy looking. No where near as nice as the Third T-Tops IMO. (the poll results tell the story LOL!)

Some of them are fine. And it wouldn't matter for you anyway since you only take your car out in nice weather 4 months out of the the year all the time.

T TOPS all the way, except for track use.

I doesn't get much better in the world of 3rd gens (with the exception of driving sideways) than driving on a cool night with ttops off, shorts, shoes off and the heat on low. mmm

Voted hardtop. Got both, hate the tops though, wasn't much option when I got my 'bird. The tops are tolerable though, after painting them black on the inside so the sun doesn't shine through.
The one thing I do like about them, you can take them off for extra light in the cabin when doing interior work. Pop the tops, straddle a 4' shop light over the opening, pleanty-o-light.

I vote T-Tops, I thought this looked kinda smooth and if you put the interior T-Top panels in its kind of a hardtop theme. Its the best of both worlds IMHO.

I don't think it would since I would assume it was primed and then painted which would block out any light I think. The owner of the car with these ttops is on the boards and posted them up. I'm doin this to mine when the time for paint comes.

Edit: its firbird who did it https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...=painted+ttops
