Kameleon is on!!!!
Hello every one well it has been a long time comin for this paint job. First I am not a pro, this is my first attempt at paintin my car and for the most part it turned out great!! A lil dust, debris and some bugs in the paint and clear but all in all it looks good.
I started out by puttin a gloss black with a very small hint of kameleon mixed in, on for a base coat
Then taped off my flames and "IROC-Z" on the doors, fenders, and roof. Then spray the kameleon on. The kameleon is a blue/purple but gold and a redish color love to stand out
I would have to say my favorite part is the IROC-Z on the doors...they turned out better then I could have imagined...It took 3 hours to tape the drivers side and an hour and a half to do the passenger side but it was well worth it....The orignal plan was to have the kameleon flames and then put a red IROC-Z decal down...but that would have takin away from everything....
ok I'll shut up..What does everyone think...

Awesome man, just awesome. Painting the iroc-z on in kameleon was a great idea. You're going to tell me you taped the outline of that iroc-z decal and painted it out? crazy.........

Nice....but please do something with those fender wells.....puts a blemish on an otherwise nice looking car.

the only complaint would be the fact that the flames on the roof are semetrical but im assuming you used a template? Other then that the car looks awesome, get it put back together completly and lets see some pictures from you up on a ladder looking down on the car or something like that

Just use some rubberized undercoating for those wheel wells! It will really make the car look alot cleaner and also reduce some road noise!!!! Great stuff! You can also buy it in an aresol can! Makes the job alot easier!
I think the fact that the hood is off is a good indication that there will be flames on it as well.
Some Tire Wet or silicone spray on the wheel wells will work wonders as well. Just clean them first.

If you do it again, you can bring the pattern (like the IROC-Z) to a place that cuts vynil graphics and have them cut them out of thin mil. sticker stock. I had the 'Corvette' pattern cut out for my valve covers for around $6 for both sides. Heck of a lot easier.

wow! that's one hell of a home-done paint job. Seeing how big that fender gap is, I'm thinking there may be no engine weighing the front end down right now. That's pretty much how my bird looks with the engine compartment gutted.
not bad at all lol, the paint job and colours look perfect. but im not a big fan on the flame design u went with, they look a bit boreing 2 me. i would have put more cuvs/detail into it and made it flow better with the fender wheel edge but thats my taste. other then that it looks perfect! keep up the good work

Thank you all for the replies!!!! I must say this thing just begs questions...lol people are stoppin to just stare and look at the car...its just sittin out in the sun to bake...
Well for the most part the paint and supplies was kinda on the spendy side....mainly cause of the kameleon used! at 26 bux a oz it really get spendy real fast but heres a break down of what I used
(Edited in more prices cause I had to buy more paint)
primer and activator-$100
base coat w/ base maker and activtor-$350
kameleon paint-8oz-$350
clear coat w/ activator-$85
3 rolls of fine line tape-$35
1 roll 2" masking tape-$10
3 rolls 1" masking tape-$30
2 rolls 1/2" maskin tape-$20
3 tack cloths-$3
Total of $983
Freebies-
funnel filters
stir sticks
DeVilbiss paint gun
Also I would have really liked to have had more curves and better flow with the flames also but it was gettin kinda hard with the amount of tape I had to work with and the placement of the IROC-Z on the door. I wanted to keep the IROC-Z in its stock location in front there. The flames are really not the style I like but it was what I laid out the first time so I went with it. I wanted the effect of what a flame would look like if it was being thrashed around not smooth and eligant!
I used absoultly no template for anything it was all what I laid out the first time and what I saw in my head. Then transferred the best I could to the car!
The reason for no hood is the simple fact that it to is being treated to a special flame job in the kameleon also but that is still being worked on...one thing at a time! BTW some will hate me for it but I have a RAII hood for it! IMO the RAII hood was perfect because it will matche pretty well with the scoops from the aero GFX's Im using...plus the hood just looks badass

process is as simple as using a can of spray paint. use mix it with ur basemaker then add a bit of activator and spray on...doesnt get much easier then that
How u get the effect, Im not 100% sure but I think it has somethin to do with a metallic that is used in it,that or something creates a prism of sort and that is the why it changes at any angle...ok I have no clue, someone will chime in..hopefully kandied91z will he seems to know his stuff on paint...But I will try and find u an anwser

the flames look cool , they arent perfect, but i might have an idea to make them look about perfect . They look wierd were you pulled the tape off , only on the roof though, what if you took it to someone to pinstripe it for you , then it would cover up were the tape was pulled off. But otherwise it looks really awesome, Id like to do a ram air in ghost on my hood. It looks really sharp though, good work .

how it works it that inside the paint are tiny little prisms. As most know that when light hits a prism it can make jsut about every color there is. so the consept is that depending on the way the light is hitting the car, depends on what color the car is. Therefor the more coats of "prisms" put on, the more color change you will recieve. This is what I have learned, if i am wrong, and someone knows better, feel free to make me look like a dumbass
i've spoken enough about it, here is page you can read up on some of the info yourself.

Heres the hood almost done! I really managed to f- things up on this hood...I cut to deep in some spots with the razor that it went down to the white gel coat. So I have white sposts all over the hood now...look horrible...I might try to touch some spots up so we'll see. but heres some pics I snapped...it doesnt have clear coat on it yet but u get the idea!

I have wanted to do color shift flames on my black Iroc for so long. I won't say you stole my idea since I never told anyone it, but I will say I am ridiculously jealous. Nice job, I hope to see it in person someday.

Suddle but cool
