Prepping for paint?
if i wind up keeping the bird (I keep going back and forth on this) but if I do, I want to have a real nice paint job done, I had an earl sheib <sp?> just to clean it up a bit, but i'd like to someday get a pearl metallic white (they put it on a lot of newer cars) I was wondering if anyone had a really deatailed article on how to totally 110% prep my car before I took it in to a shop to be painted. BTW, how much does a real good paint job for a whole car run generally?

believe it or not,,,to leave the factory primer/paint on it the best way to do it,,, basically because the factory shell is dipped in a galvanizing primer 1st to prevent rust,,,then primered and baked making a great base to paint on,,,along with the paint,,,which id baked as well,,, usually,,just to rough the old finish and paint over is not harmful,,,unless you paint over red,,, but there's still not alot of problems there,,
A nice pearl white would run you prob close to 2500 at a body shop tho

Well I have paint that is oxidized...so what you are saying, is to rough up the paint on there now, and maybe prep over that?? I would sand it down, enough to get rid of the bad paint, and prime that. Would this turnout good?

blade,,,yes,,,just rough down the existing paint by wet sanding with some 400 grit and you'll have your base to which to lay a good coat of primer to. if you are plainng to repaint in a similar color to your original,, you don't really need to primer,,,just rough & paint.
