dont use this information against cops, im stating what i heard today, my cousin had gotten pulled over ( he has tints) , the cop came out with this machine and checked his tints, he said that they were to dark, he has 20% on his car but his 20 is way lighter then mine . mine seems more like 10. he told the cops that it was his first time in all the years he has driving cars that he had gotten pulled over for tints . the cop said that if his car was a 92 or older it wouldnt of mattered,, so my guess is that the tint law doesnt apply to our thirdgens? ,, i have been seen by many cops and never gotten pulled over, and my tints are like i said 10 % if his was 20, his are way lighter then mine...anybody ever gotten pulled over for 20% in new york city?

 

ive never heard of anything like that . I was just at the tint place the 23rd and i asked them about tinting. They said anything on the back . But you are only allowed 70% on the sides, which is no tint. I guess they give you 70% so that the factory can tint them a little.

 

I've heard the same thing 70% light has ro be transmitted threw the glass on the side windows! Rear hatch can be as dark as you want! I have also heard the 91 and older are exsempt in NY state! Just tell them that it was on there when you purchased the car from the previous owner!

 

do you have any written varification of the 91 and older thing. I really cant believe that . They woulda told me at the tint shop when i had it done. It has to be the same for all cars. Why does it matter if its 91 or older.

anyways so you can get 30 on windows and 100 on the back?

so that means no light comes thru the back and 70% come thru the sides? anyone got any pics of how that looks?

 

ha no written verfication but at the same time the cop was just "Warning " him, warning from cops = being *******s and pulling you over for no reason, he said 35% is legal, and rear can be as dark as you please , yeh thats a good one , "i thought the car came with it! "

p.s the lower the number the darker

ok my sides say 20% or something and their light as hell, almost like a few shades darker then a regular window.

 

really, well i guess it depends on the brand, my 3m is darker then my cousins 20 percent, his is cheap though its turning purple and is bubling..maybe its not a good brand??

 

From what i have been told the 3m tint is the best, it never fades. On a side note, here in Jersey (the east coast's armpit) You cannot have the tint that fades to the reflective stuff. I was hassled with the blazer I bought when i took it to inspection. That was on there when i got it. I dont like it, but i also do like removing tint.

 

Nothing writen on the 91 and older but I have friends that have gotten off on that! Its concidered exsempt 91 and older! I quess kinda like mileage on a car after so many years.

 

Yea, 0% = No light passing though

That means 0% of the light outside is passing through the tint. 5% means only 5% is passing through the tint.
