Tire Shine, what do you do? What about brake dust?

Alright guys, What tire shine do you guys use and whats your rating on it?

I tried ArmorAll tire shine, that can suck my ****. I've used Eagle One Tire Wet, and it was good in all but... it left residue and the shine didn't shine very much.

I'm in the process of ordering a small amount of Vinyl Flooring Wax, the stuff they use on walmart floors. I've heard that if you put that on tires it will shine up veyr nicely and last a long time.

But for the time being i want something that shows my tires are there, that they are taken care of. No greasy residue and all.

What do you guys use?

And also, how do you guys defend against brake dust? I know everyone gets brake dust but how do you defend against it. I'd like to be able to just use the hose and wipe off my brake dust, with no pressure washer. Is there a polish out there that will accomplish this goal?

If so what do you use?

Thanks guys, lets keep this as tech related as possible,

Shane

Buy pads that don't dust. I have no problems in that regard even with four wheel disc's and aluminum wheels.

I always use Eagle One and apply with one of those curved applicator pads, I've always been happy with that. As long as you wash your tires when you wash the car, any leftover residue should come off just fine, then reapply the 'tire wet' again.

I haven't tried this yet, but try waxing your rims, I've heard that will help keep brake dust from sticking. But like DJP said, get pads that don't leave brake dust. I made the mistake of buying el cheapo pads and get lots of dust, but when it comes time to replace them, I'll be getting a set of good pads.

I have been using PF z-rated pads on all four corners for the last 2yrs with no dust and very good performance in my opinion.

I had a GTA for a few years and those wheels are hell to clean so I tried all the cleaners and found the original armour all wheel cleaner to be great ( smelled like battery acid ) but for some unknown reason they changed it to nice smelling white liquid and the new stuff sucks. Mothers wheel cleaner is what I now recomend. As far as tire shine Mcguiars tire gel is great and lasts very long.

I use EBC greenstuff pads and they have pretty low dust and what dust does come off is not black more grey and washes off easy.

Like it now? Wait a week and you will love it cause it will still shine as good. Usually takes a little more frequent application for the first couple of weeks but I only have to put it on once a week now at most and it surivives a couple of washes too :lala:

I like Meguiars' Hot Rims cleaner. The back side of my rims were caked in dust and it got it off with much less effort than the Formula 2001 stuff.

For the spokes of the GTA I used a foam paintbrush. Did wonders.

I use Black Magic tire Gel, i hate the spray cuz it can be a mess and can get on the body, Gel is easy and shines better, And for brake dust, i herd ceramic brake pads are pretty good..

Same here. That spray gets all over the place, and stains the driveway. It's rained like a bish for the past few weeks and I can still see impressions of my tires on the ground from the overspray.

...unless you're talking about the spray-can stuff, which I woudln't even touch. Bought a can of that stuff waaaaayyyyy back when at Odd Lots for 99 cents and it was more like spray paint than tire wet.

Ceramic pads give off little to no brake dust. A search will answer more questions you have about ceramic pads.

At home I use eagle one tire wet. That is after I spray on the orange bottle of eagle one wheel and tire cleaner and scrub the tire. After I spray on the tire wet I use a rag and softly go over the tire, so it doesn't drip.

I use the hot rims ( woork very well ) on billet rims. for the shine i use the zanio stuff on the interior as well as the tires. on the interior it does not atract dust and is not greasy, but the gloss is good.

eagle on ewet or meguires tire shine is what i use. Has been raining every evening here and never when i'm home or the cars inside always when i'm out driving and the tires still have decent shinr to them. I like the eagle one a-z wheel and tire cleaner takes all th edirt off real nice. When i fisrt got the rs i didnt realize the entire inside of teh wheel was teal like the spoke inserts and i used the stuff to clean the back sides up. its in a orange bottle and also works bichin to take off oil or any stains on the driveway.

Ive used eagle, meguiars and, black magic they all seem about the same.. eagle and meguiars may last a tad longer but black magic is hella cheaper, like half that of meguiars and i was my car atleast once a week so it doesnt affect me.. so I just use Black Magic, make sure you use a gel tho spray stuff is runny and messy as a ****

the problem i had with all the tire gell products is when it was time to pain the car the gfx were so contaminated with silicone it was forever to get it out of the plastic. It was like it soaked it up, and had to replace a few pieces. While the shines without silicone are better they do not shine that good. I will post a tire pic with the zaino stuff on it tomorrow, it looks good without beeing to greesy looking.
