I wouldnt be able to buy them right at this moment, but within a month I could buy a set. Only 17x9 though, not chromed, just polished or bare would be freakin awesome! That guy selling chrome 20s dont do 17s though

I've been in communication with the guy selling the 18's and 20's. I thought if we got 5 or 6 people he could put together an order. When I asked him how many orders he needed to produce these, he answered 200!!! I know he orders them form somewhere so I'll try to get this info out of him to try a smaller order for ourselves. I think I can recall 4 or 5 people who are willing to buy 17 x 9's polished. I prefer 9.5 but 9 is better than nothing if I can get enough people together. I'll keep trying.

 

I'd be in on a 17x9.5 version that fits our cars w/o spacers.
If any of us knows cad and has a stock rim to get measurements from...Boyd's could cut them out. Especially if we got enough people to do it. The only thing left to figure out would be what the backspacing and offset would need to be.

 

On the February 2004 issue of Chevy High Performance, a third gen Camaro underwent suspension and wheels modifications. After lowering the car with an Eibach Sportline kit, Vintage Wheel Works V45 rims were added. They were 17 x 9.5 with 5.5 inch backspacing. They hung 275/40/17 rubber on them. They did, however, have to roll the front fender lip to avoid clearance issues. I know there are companies that'll cut these dimensions no problem. My concern is that I'd like these to be identical (or as close to as possible) to 88-90 IROC two line wheels. Do you think Boyd can handle this? Also, are they going to be incredibly expensive?

 

I don't know? The only way would be for someone to talk to boyd and find out. I'd assume that the price would depend on how many people got in on the order. I see sets of his wheels in 17" go for around $1000 from some vendors...so I don't know why these wouldn't be around that.

 

Because custom designing and cutting are usually VERY expensive. However, you are totally right about asking Boyd (or any other manufacturer for that matter) how much he'd charge.

 

Forged billet and modular 2 or 3 piece wheels are more expensive. But these would be 1 piece machined billet wheels.

The design phase of the wheel must be taken into account also.
Since these would be one piece wheels and would be cnc'd out of a block of solid aluminum...I don't see where they'd be that expensive. Having the cnc man set in the numbers on the program and then mount the alum in the cnc machine is (I asume) the biggest part of the physical part of making them.
I know we have guys on this board that know CAD. I know we have someone here that has a spare iroc rim laying around that can be used to get the measurements needed to plug into CAD to make a virtual model. Then modify the diameter to 17" and set the offset and backspacing to what's needed to fit, while keeping the lug area measurements the same and the width of the spokes and "lines" the same....we've got our model. Send it to whoever agrees to cnc cut them and viola. If we could get someone here to make a CAD model....it would cut out the design costs from the mfg'r. All they'd have to do is convert the CAD into CNC figures (which I assume should be a common thing to do for someone trained in CNC machining).
It doesn't sound that hard to me.

If I was trained in CAD and had a spare iroc rim laying around....I'd be on it. And if I had a CNC machine and was trained on it....I'd mfg them myself and start profiting off this both here and on ebay. When you think of all the 2nd, and 3rd gen owners (maybe even some 1st gen owners too) along with all the S-series and trucks and blazers, astro vans, A, & G bodies still out there.....there's a huge market for them.

 

I agree about the market being there. That's what I was trying to get the guy on ebay to see. However, he is pleased with his 18 and 20 business I guess. I also agree with what you said about cutting cost by making the design ourselves. The only reason that I mentioned making these being expensive is that I've seen in other posts how getting custom wheels made has been costly. If we can make arrangements for custom wheels, I'm in!!!!!

 

I'm definitely interested in a 17" double vein 88-90 IROC-Z rim. I really like my stock rims but I would like to put some 275s on my car. I've been looking around quite a bit but the only ones I've found are the 16x8, 17x8 and 18x8 IROC rims. I would like a set of chrome 17" x 9 1/2":hail:

YES WE CAN MAKE THEM, HOW MANY DO YOU WANT THAT IS VERY INPORTANT TO THE COST OF THE WHEEL. OUR 17X9.5 IN BITCHEN IS $354.50 EACH ORDER 20 AND IT WOULD DROP THE PRICE 25% $265.88 NOW THIS IS FOR OUR WHEELS I WOULD NEED A PIC TO QUOTE IT.


So basically, their usual cost would be around $354.50 or $1418 for only one set. However, if we find 5 people who order 4 wheels each, the price would be $265.88 or $1063.52 for each set. I assume shipping is additional. I need a good picture of the wheel in order to send it to them. If anyone can provide it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

BTW drain89, I stand corrected. This price is really very reasonable for custom designed and made wheels.

 

As it turns out, this just took a horrible turn since, when the guys at Coddington saw the pictures of the rims, they said it would take a really thick piece to make the hub center section and that each wheel would be $2,000!!!!!!!!!!!! So, NO CUSTOM ORDER FROM THEM.

 

I'm going to start seeing what I can do. Maybe I can get some wheels made for you guys..

I too currently have the 18" chrome single stripes
ive noticed the double stripes on ebay for about the past 2 months.. if they come out with a 18x9 or 9.5 I will order them in a heartbeat otherwise im too cheap to spend more money on wheels unless I sell mine lol

 

any one have updates to the boyd/or the doubble liners?? i bet if you had boid mimic the single liners hub section and then add the dubble line on the spoke he could make them at a fair price..

Hey guys.

I did find a wholesaler that will sell the double-lined wheels to me. The issue is that his cost to me is more than I was buying IROC wheels at before!!

Sorry I can't be of any help but I just can' t make $10 per sale.

yes but they are the single liners..... DOUBBLE line.... see attached photo.. double liners are not made any where, but from what ive reed that guy manny is remaking the double liners.. See photo for clarification of single vs doubble line / vein

...well like you said, "at least". There are a lot more than 3, BUT....if you consider Iroc ONLY....then there are only two styles, which are the early "single" line, and the late "double" line.
