Best method for sanding wheels and using Mothers Alum polish?

Right now I'm wet sanding formula wheels with 150 grit and 220. All I have to use is mothers aluminium polish to make it shine. I'd like the closest thing to a mirror finish with buying buffing compounds, or tools to do this. I remember reading if you press lightly with Mothers, it will shine better.

So far my plan is 150 wet, 220 wet, 320 wet, 400 wet, and mothers.

if you want it really shiny, go to about 800 or 1000 grit then mothers

The sticky leads me to use buffing compounds, so that's why I started the thread.

i have always had the best luck using 4 aught (0000) steel wool. it works better than sandpaper i think to removed the discoloring and baked on mud and dirt, plus its easyier than switching sandpaper.

whats wrong with buffing compounds.... its really the only way to make them mirror finish if you sand any higher than 400 you'll start getting a haze to the wheel. I got emory, tripoli, white rouge and some buffing wheels at home depot for like $30 so its not expensive.... and you could probably take them back when your done if you really want.

I used 80, 100, 120, 180, 220, 320, 600, 1000, 1500, 2000, (on my plenum) then used a high speed buffer with mothers polish...and it looks like a mirror...no regrets..

Everyone has their own techniques though....and that was mine..
