R7Us were only available in Canada
97 of them around, only!
not sure how many left
they came from the dealership with cages and decals! MOst people removed the cages as they were bolt in, and once you cracked one up u were more than likely to remove the decals

I think you're getting two different cars confused. I'm not sure what an R7U is, maybe the Canadian 1LE, but the IROC Series race cars were not really Camaros at all. Like the TransAms they run today, they're really tube frame racers, very similar in construction to a NASCAR Busch/Winston (sorry, Nextel) car. You couldn't just un-bolt the cage and go. Key visual cues are the body sides are deeper and flatter than a production car, and the skin of the b-pillar wraps around in to the interior (easy to see because there's no windows or weatherstripping) which is a sign of a purpose-built 'Shilouette' racing car.

IIRC, they only build about 20 of each generation IROC car for the series, and the drivers often keep the old ones.

yeah, i think the same thing... its sweet seeing them going all out like they do, but i cringe every time they brake hard into a turn bc they are all so close!

R7U Was an RPO code only available here in Canada. Usually a lot of the time the drivers did keep their cars but they did sell a few @ dealers. Its probablyu the same idea.. but If you that website link above will give you all the info

R7U--> is the option code for Canadian Players Challange cars that raced in the IROC series. They are also 1LE cars. They are 100% real Camaros with the differences being that they are all 305s with matched hp numbers to keep them all equal. They have no speacial engine mods that make them any more powerful than any other 305.

I drive a Canadian 1991 1LE 350 Auto and the only options the car did not come with was leather, AC, foglights an CD. If you check out www.vancouverfbody.com they have a member ((FormerR7Uowner)) who had one of these cars and has full documentation and videos of the car being raced by Frank Allers. Theres another guy on this site...cant remember his name.... but he is collecting all info on these R7U Players Challange cars and he is very knowledgable about them.

Depends on the race!!! In a straight line...I highly doubt it but in any race with turns its lights out. That pic with the one wheel floating is awesome!! I wanna turn corners like that.
