What is wrong with this rim????
I started polishing my wheels today...and one of my wheels looks like crap. Can anyone tell me what has happened? I think it might have been like that from the factory...it never has shined like the rest of my wheels. It makes me sick just looking at it. I have always used Mother Billet Polish on my wheels....but this rim looks horrible. What should I do? Should I give American Racing a call??? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks Fella's
noticed how it looks dull...and has a brownish tint....

i use mother billet polish on my rims and it works fine . I just recently did two of my rims with a drill and buffer pad. It took forever but they turned out better than when i recieved them from boyd coddington. Do you polish them by had or use power. I never had used power on them b4 so i did the inside lip and it turned out great so i did the lip you'd see . Maybe try a drill with the buffer on it . I did it and they look great .
sounds like a spot that was missed....un coated bare metal will do that after time and use from the brake dust. time to get to it at hand and repolish the wheels.
major pita and only reason why i hate polished wheels.

polished up . Kandied you are deffy right about the poilished rims being a pain in the ***, i would not recomend them to anyone who has them on a daily driver or a car that gets driven in the rain .

84custom, doesn't look bad at all... just looks like it needs a good buff job like the others said. Just use a buff wheel on a drill with the correct compounds and that brownish tint/haze will be gone!

I buff my wheels about every week though....I could see if I waited like monthly or something, but I don't. I always buff by hand and I've never had a problem. I've emailed American Racing about it..but...I doubt they will do anything. Just thought I'd check on here and get a little feedback from the guys with aftermarket custom wheels. I guess I'll just hit it with a buffer a little and see how it acts...but...I doubt it will do anything...the bad thing is...is that I've only had these wheels for about a year...and one of them looks faded and old

I had one wheel that did that when I bought polished Z06's for my '98. It turned out that was one the same corner that I had large amounts of brake dust (for some reason it had more dust than on the other side). The combination of brake dust/washing will probably drag small carbon particles across the surface of the wheel...moreso with heavy brake dust.
I bet if you polish it up with a power buffer, it will look like new.

that makes sense....but...I don't have disk brakes in the rear to produce brake dust....and I have never really washed them...I just always polish them and keep them in tip top shape....I'll hit it with a buffer today and see what happens....

It probably just wasn't polished properly at American Racing. You need to go back over it with a buffer and some more abrasive compound. I would try some white rouge and a soft buffing pad then the mothers polish and see if that doesnt work.. you might have to go over it with some tripoli and then white rouge. I need to go back over my wheels again cause the mothers isnt abrasive enough. If you need more help just aim me bro... or maybee email me I havent been online much lately
