Made clear rocker panel badges that light up!!
I took a break from my LT1 engine swap to do something fun with an idea I had. The engine is out that is why the front is so high.
I cut and polished some plex added a chrome RS sticker and used some LED's I had from another prodject that didn't work out. IF you want more pics unlite, close up or whatever let me know I will just add the weblink.
As always with me feel free to say what you feel +/-

i would love a pic of that unlit.
that is SWEET looking. i really like to see people doing creative things and doing it themselfs, little custom touches like really make it YOUR car, and not just another camaro
you get a big :hail:

That pic does look pink with the lights out in the dark it looks more red.
I bought a piece of thick plex from Home Depot, used the old emblem to trace, cut it out with a hacksaw, sanded and polished the ends smooth and clear. $10
I bought the chrome RS stickers off ebay, 3 for $8 I think. They are actually 4th gen replicas.
I had to repaint behind the emblem as it was fadded and the car had been repainted. First white then clear gloss.
The emblems are held on with two push tabs which when removed leave two nice small holes for the Leds. I used silicone to seal them up and hold them in place. I haven't completly ran the wiring yet but if figure I will tap into the side markers.
I used a clear epoxy glue just light around the edges to hold it on I figure this should seal it form getting water and crud in there. I haven't mounted the other side yet I think I might try silocone for that side.

i really like that, it looks great on your white car.
i don't know how something like that would look on a blue car or a darker colored car.

Maybe if you can block the veiw of the actual LED's and just get a glow it would look better. Your on to something kind of cool though.
yea i know what your talking about with the SS for 3rd gens... It has the same look as the S in RS... just put 2 of them together... i forgot the page.. but i got it here somewhere... hold on.....nope guess not..but i have seen them... anyway... it looks good. I like it... but i wana see more pics of your car.. that checkerd flag thing looks cool... do you have any shots of your full car?

u can see the 2 lights in it is there a why it could be done where the whole thing looks like a light its self. example>> like the why the shifter gears light up, D,R,N,P.
say i wanted to make one blue right, what if i make the z28 clear behind it a blue type plastic that can last and leds behind that. that why the whole thing would light up. would that work right in order to make it all glow??

:hail: I thought about doing this before and never came up with anything... Now you've given me some ideas
What I had planned on doing is using smoked or tinted plexi with a Z28 emblem and orange or yellow LED's. Are those 3000MCD LED's you used? And what did u use for dropping resistors?

very trick!
Doesnt somebody manufacture a sheet of stuff that lights up? You could cut out the RS or do it in reverse then the bulbs wouldnt show and it would be easier to read.

About the led's, I have no idea what they are they are clear but light up red. I hooked them straight up to the battery??? Is that bad? I bought them off ebay they were supposed to be guage needle lights but they required drilling holes in the guages so I found some stickon ones that worked much better and just had these laying around.
Also by request here are some links to some old pics before I took it apart for the engine swap.

i am not a big fan of graphics, or salad shooters . . .
but you car pulls it off, it looks good. and i bet it gets LOTS of attention.

Your car looks excellent with the exception of the wheels. I don't think they look good on anything...probably why you can get them for next to nothing
The checkers look right at home and the interior is very tasteful. I always wondered what that steering wheel would look like on a 3rd gen and it really isn't as bad as I thought it would look with its square shape and the round steering column.
As for the LED's.... You need a dropping resistor. They are only supposed to be 5v and less so putting 12v into them will burn them out quickly. You should be using a dropping resistor, but since I don't know the nature of the LEDs I can't tell you what to use.
There is a site somewhere (i lost the link when i re-formatted my system
) that tells you what brightness, what angles the LED will cover, and what resistors to use.
Maybe if you check into other LED posts like the brake lights or marker lights you will find that link...

he may be fine at 12v, he siad they were the LED replacements for the dash lights, so they may be the plug and play style led bulb replacements that the the restor pack integrated.

Looks awesome!
Hey,
I got an idea that will make it look even cooler. Put very small surface mount LED’s on the side of the clear plastic this will make the plastic glow without seeing the light source. Surface mount LED’s are so small that they could be covered up by almost anything.
Here is a surface mount LED:

Some LED’s have resistors built into them to run off 12 volts. Most LED’s are 5v or 3.7v, to use these on a 12volt power source, your car; you will need to use a resistor. To calculate the resistor value to use the link to my LED Dash Tech Article in my sig.

Great work man! I like it a lot. It's cool to see someone who has an idea and follows through with it to the point where the finished product looks professional! I am just waiting for these guys to come out with their own "altezza" tail lights. LOL Wonder if they will come out half as good as your iea came out. Keep up the good work. Later

Check your local laws.. I know here in florida it's illegal to have red lights anywhere except on your rear end (tail lights)
It's also illegal to have blue lights anywhere on the vehicle.
