Did you know....?

...that late model BMW's have the same bolt pattern as our 3rd gens? My lil bro came down from Virginia this weekend in his BMW 325 and had these nice wheels on his car. I was curious if his wheels (265/35-19) would fit on my car and lo and behold they bolted right on. Check out the pics. You might need wheel spacers for the front wheels though.

Yup, it's been done a few times.. The 5/7 series rims usually have the correct offset, so no spacers needed. I do believe that the BMW's use the lugs to center the rim, while we use the hub center. I think you need to fab up some aluminum rings to make sure the rim stays centered.

He only paid about 330 per wheel. The bad side is that these wheels are heavy compared to my centerlines.

Yeah I was looking at some companies that made after market wheels for BMWs for the 82... Breyton was one of them...now they are discoing everything....sux! I really fell in love with a set of their wheels!

Guess I will start checking ebay for them...though I bet i will never see the sizes I want...

I would defintely go with polished billet that exposes your disc brakes. I want to get rid of my centerlines to go with something similar to those beemer wheels as well but in a polished look like this one.

In your other thread you posted you drove around on them did you just have the rears on or both front and rears? Cause if I read right those wheels have a 20mm offset our cars are closer to 0 offset. And also where did he get them cause I can only find them in 18x8.5 and 18x9.5.

I only did the rears because the fronts need wheel spacers. I found 19" on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43959

Read the duplicate of this thread... slight difference in bolt pattern (US vs metric) so lugs go through hole, but aren't in center of holes in rim, causing problems locating rim when torquing... that is if I understood the thread properly...

Wouldn't the taper of the lug nut automatically center the wheel though?

You're going to need wheel spacers because of different offsets.

5x120mm (BMW) vs. 5x120.65mm (GM F-car)

Usually the offset is pretty close, but the main problem appears to be the variation in the type of lug nuts used and the lug centric vs hub centric mounting.

Some of the 4th gen guys are getting my with the BMW wheels, but I've heard of at least one account of the wheel coming off the car.

HTH!!!

I run BMW wheels and have so for five years without one problem. BM's use bolts not studs and nuts like our cars and yes they are metric 460mm. Our cars use imperial 4 3/4" which converts to 460.8mm so there is a very slight difference. This is not the worry. What must be done to make them center and hold well is to drill out the bolt holes to 5/8" or 16mm ( the same size in metric ) and use a combo nut. I use Gorilla ( sorry no PN ) but they look like a taper seat accorn style that has a short straight shank section to center in the wheel hole. It works great for me. Heres a pic of my car. Borbet Type T 17" 245/45 and 285/40's

I think depending on what car you have you should put either an engraved bowtie or flaming chicken on there. Or to be really corny you can put in a picture of your loved one.

If you buy them new you can can any width you want that is offered by whatever manufacturer you choose. I couldn't find anything I liked through the usual Camaro offerings and bought through Borbet. Loads of styles and good prices too
