To Tint Or No?

I'm generally a big fan of tinting...
My red '83 was tinted and I thought it made a huge improvement in looks. I have a '91 now and am contemplating a tint job.

My question is: Is tint on a black Camaro too much? You're all going to tell me its my choice, but I want to hear what everyone thinks...

get tint even if it is illegal , it rules . It makes the car look better , its makes it harder for people to see stuff in the car , and its more comfortable to have it, i mean its not as bright so its more comfortable , at least for me . I have 5% all around , and also have a 5% windshield banner . Its hard to drive at night with the windows down but i do it occ. But it does look sweet.

I'm a fan of tinting, but I think that the best tint colors, are also the least realistic for a daily driver. If you drive your car only during the day, go ahead and go all out... if you drive it during night as well, look at a little less of a tint. Nothing scarier than driving blind.

Tint them as much as you possibly can. At night... roll them down.

Definetly get your windows tinted. I have a black car and it looks sweet with tint. How often do you drive at night? If you drive alot at night I would recomend 15% Its perfect, you can see fine at night and it is still dark.

the rear defroster will be no problem with a good tint shop.

I had 20% all around. I hated it. Looks good but driving it sucked. Now I have no-tint and I am much happier. And I never have to worry about cops, and not being able to see. Only reason I would even consider tint again is to keep some light out so the AC stays colder.

definitly do it... just beware of the decreased visibility at night. for me, it was more than worth it.. improved the look of the car and hides my "work in progress" interior.... "dark" on the hatch (~5%) and "medium" on the sides (~20-30%)

I even tinted my Ttops. I have a tinted pair for the summer and a clear pair for the winter. I still need to retint my windows after having to "peel" them for a ticket in CA.

Jim.

No tint on a black Camaro is not necessarily 'too much'! I like the look of it, as long as it is not totally 'ghetto blacked out'.

Just don't get more tint than you are legally allowed in your State. It isn't worth the attention/hassle from the cops.

Those of you with tinted windscreens - what percentage are you getting?

5% tint all around and i live in CA where cops will pull you over for having "modified exhaust" or if you have something hanging from your rear view mirror...I've had my camaro with 5% tint all around for almost 2 years and have been pulled over numerous times for reasons other than my tint...I just rolled my windows down when i got pulled over...here is a pic of my tint

91NiteRida' that picture really shows the body lines of the camaro off very well. Beautiful car you've got there.

I think sometimes people forget that the reason we have tint laws is because it would be too easy for someone to pull out a gun after they got pulled over while the cop comes to the car, and shoot the cop. My uncle is a cop and once told me that the scariest thing cops do is pull people over because you never know if they're psychotic, or in a hurry for a good reason, or so drunk or high that they will harm you or what is going on.

Thanks for the compliments sellman

I understand what you are talking about the tint laws....my uncle is a cop also so i know why they have them...I did mine for the looks and privacy...90% of the time, they are down when i am driving.

i love my tint. dark on the back, medium on the sides. It really is nice to have. I live in southern MI where the only legal tint is a 3inch wide strip at the top of the window which would do nothing. I just get the heebie jeebies when i see a cop. I roll em down day or night even if they are passing on the other side of the road ( yeah im probably a paraniod freak but hey..) My car is white so the tint has a greater contrast. The scariest park about getting tint done for me is living next to a local police station and a MI state tropper station, and a Border Patrol staion (yes border patrol in S. MI.) wherein the first some odd days you cant roll your windows down...

BUT.. speaking of cops.. most will not pull you over for tint. If they do though, roll those things down so they can see you. The last thing you want is a man with a gun worried about his life.

I only tint my ride if it has sounds. Prevents any thieves from getting ideas while walking by the car/truck when its parked. But if there's no sounds (or valuable stuff inside) then I say leave it with no tint. Especially if there's a cage. I want people to see the guy that built the car they're checking out, ya know what I mean?

I'd go with tint, only right up to the legal limit for where you are. Definately find a reputable tint shop, some offer lifetime warranty on their work, and KEEP ALL THE RECEIPTS!!!! This way you can claim the warranty if needed, and you can fight a ticket in court if the law changes and you are suddenly past the legal limit... Good Luck!

Black with black is the best!

Get a good black metal tint. Metal tint will not fade out to purple... It will keep the interior cooler...keep the interior from fading...Plus keep would be thieves from getting a good look!
