My Future Set up

Tell me what you guys think, Im 17, my first car, and I love it to death, so Ive decided for sentimental reasons to soop this bad boy up. Theres only 2 rust holes under the seat...quarter size.
Heres the plans

THIS HOOD

THIS SPOILER

ON THIS CAR

Painted somewhere between midnight blue and tealish color

Performance Options:

all new suspention and components
High horse power 355 (dynoed at 470)
355 rear end
700-r4 tranny

and then a little interior work (interior right now is practicaly mint..cept headliner)

So what do you guys think, am i gettin over my head here or do you think i got a good project that will take me a while. Im in my last year of high school and taking a year off to get some cash then apprenticing mechanics.

Let me know

-Curtis

Megaracerx - Im gonna go a midnight blue or a teal, but darker, I think it might flow with my blue interior, or i might change my interior to black, and gi black, I have 6 months to think about it but any of those will satisfy me.

Z28MOnster & Kretos - I love the old style but I am thinking about upgrading if i can find a donor car at the junkyard, cause i think they give it a more rubust look with those iroc or newer z28 gfx

Thanx for replies and kind comments guys

if your going with the ss hood. i'd say you almost have to upgrade to newer style, i saw one car on the board with the old style and the hood and it looked horrible. but its up to you

I say keep the nose and front GFX, find the old style sideskirts and rear bumper to match the front, drop the car a bit, and you'll have a hell of a nice ride with that hood and spoiler.

I would just upgrade to a newer front gfx with any aftermarket hood. Before I put a z28 bumper and gfx on my sport coupe, the ram air hood I had looked weird....also Im not the biggest expert on this so if Im wrong someone correct me but with that kind of horsepower and having t-tops you'll have to look into a cage to help strengthen the body or you'll get stress cracks (I had them by my t-tops from my 305...go figure)

I really think the SS hood only looks good when the car has the 91-92 GFX. the air scoops on the side really match with the hood. with the 90 and older gfx the scoop just doesn't seem to match. I say if you are sticking with your current nose or going to switch to the 85-90 gfx put a 2" cowl hood on. just my

Curtis, I think that sounds like a really good plan, definitly not too much to wish for...
I got my car when I was 17 (I'm 19 now), and what I've come to realize is I'm actually quite happy that I started with a base model, just like yours... my reasoning is that I've thoroughly enjoyed adding stuff to my car, as well as the fact that I've learned a ton by working on it and have made good friends through the process...
I look at it as a hobby... searching for random crap in junkyards, the sense of anticipation for my next mod, as well as reasearching crap on message boards like this fuel my passion...

so, what I'm saying is go for it... those goals aren't out of reach, but the fun is getting there.

Camaroguy18 - A cage is a really good idea, I didnt really put much thought into that yet, but I gotta keep that in mind especially cause i intend on racing at my local track when shes done.....Thanx for mentioning that

1992rs/ss - I respect your opinion, But I am keeping it in mind about the newer GFX, whatever i stumble across first thats probably what i might go with, and in the building process it can always be changed. As for the cowl, I used to wanta 2.5 inch cowl, but I just kinda grew out of it, I dont know why, I love the look of the SS hood alot more

90firebird- Im glad to hear from someone who started in my situation, I made sure I didnt make and "out of reach" goals that I might be dissapointed with that I couldnt do. From what I have seen, your car looks amazing, If i remember correctly your the guy with the picture doing doughnut or burnout with your hand out the window right? Amazing car. Been to your cardomain page aswell. And so far i have picked up a few fellow thirdgenner friends that have helped me which is really key to getting things done the right way.

Thanx for the replies guys

PS: as mentioned by 90firebird, watcing these boards just makes me want to go further with my car. These board have been a real inspiration.

i said the same thing about taking a year off after school to get some cash.. it ended up being a lot longer than a year.. possibly because of the car.

.. but it has all ended extremely well for me AND my car, so i say go for it.

theSteve - thanx for the encouraging words, but i really hope it doesnt take much longer cause i wanna apprentice early on, but if i have to i will take a little more off.

Camaroguy18 - I noticed you recently got your car painted candy apple red right ? the only thing i have a stink with is the ram air hood, just my opinion, i just think it looks like a nose lol but your car is really looking great, cant wait for more pics, the only ones i have seen are the ones in the paintbooth

Hey man good luck on your new endevour just wanted to chime in and tell you more important than a roll bar on a t-top car is a really good set of sub-frame connectors. That's the first thing I'd do before I spent a single dime on anything else.

1. Insurance
2. Tags
3. Sub-frame connectors

That's my steps on any uni-body car!
