Classic or antique plates on 3rd gens.

Do you guys have any pics of classic plates on your car . I mean the plates that are from that year . I know some states are 20 yrs and some are 25 to be considered a classic. What I really want to see is if anyone has an 82-85 3rd gen from ny . I want to see what the plate looks like from 85 . I think their different and if they are I want to get a set so I could put them on . Actually I know they are different I just don’t know if they still used yellow and blue plates in 85 or if they switched to the liberty plate ?Any pics guys.

I had a discussion about this with my friend a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure that in 1984, NY still had the ugly yellow plates. I don't know when they switched to the statue of liberty plates... but I'd sure love to have a set on my bird. I'm also wondering if i can pull one over on the DMV and have a permit for classic plates, but use the incorrect year Statue of Liberty plates on my 84 TA. I'll do some searching and post back if i find out what year they changed over.

wow, the internet is amazing. there's a web site for everything. The changeover occured in 1986 so we're in the same boat. Here are pictures of all the plates issued by NY. The year below them is when they were introduced.

Here is a listing of all states incase anyone else is interested in getting classic plates:
