Getting ghost flames, how far back should i go?

I finally decided to get ghost flames on my black 88 formula. They are gonna be light purple/silver. Obviously, im gonna start from the front. How far back should i bring them? I want it to be subtle, Not Fonzies ride. Thanks guys!

The ones I've seen go back about 2/3 the way up the hood and equally far back on the fender. I think it looked just about perfect, but that's just my opinion.

I agree that the majority of the flame should end about 2/3 of the way down the hood/fender. But I like it when there are those couple of pieces of the flame make it to the door. (I hope that makes sense.)

Reznor, your car looks great, but ghost flames in pics dont do them justice. You can hardly see them in the photos, but i can sort of distinguish where they extend to. It does look nice. Beautiful car man. And thanks for the input.
