take a big hammer and hit from the other side of the rim but hit on the tire. also put 1 lug nut on one of the studs so the wheel doesnt fly off. if it doesnt move still, get some PB Blaster and spray all the holes where the wheel studs come thru and wait a bit and then go back smackin the back side of the tire again and it will pop off. i do this all the time at work if rims get alitted rusted or just stuck on.

I hate when that happens. Lots of PB Blaster and a real big pipe usually get the job done.

lol, go try to do some donuts with the lugs off! should pop em right off!!

yeah, pb blaster works good! soak the stud area and back of the hub/wheel and let it work its magic for a few minutes and just hammer it off lightly to loosen the rust.

make sure when you go to put them back on, clean the hub and rim well. lightly sand it and coat it with some WD-40 or something. should work good

But well worth it Ta looks better with the rims that where on the firebird on em...

This happened to a friend's IROC. One of the rear rims was corroded to the hub. Beating on it with a 22lbs sledge and block of wood did nothing. Ended up putting the lug nuts on loose and going down the road turning left and right at about 40 MPH and it finally loosened up.

Here is what you need to do

hopefully you have two floor jacks if not take off another tire...floor jacks work best...raise the car to where it is just off the ground...back up a floor jack (do in the street or somewhere where you have good running room) line it up with the lower left or right side of the tire (watch for the rim!!) and run the jack into it at full speed

repeat until it comes loose

you can also take a loose tire as i said before and granny swinging it into the side of the tire/wheel to knock it off the hub...last but not least try to shoot some WD40 behind the rim onto the hub...you probably have a bunch of rust built up...

I work at Discount tire and deal with this kinda thing all the time

Dont feel bad man. I had the exact same problem. I dont know what it is...but for some reason my rims like to stick to the spacers that go on the rear end of the car. Took me about an hour with a sledgehammer to get them off...and even that took alot of prying and bumping the tire around to finnaly get it lose...i also had 2 guys helping me to do it also. Keep trying...they'll come off.

soak it with some penetrating fluids stuffs and use something to jolt the wheel... not necissarily something pulling on it hard... like you said it's not like they are welded on.. and it's just the lugs that hold them on...

well there are alot of post except what the real problem is......

alum rim on steel hubs/drums ect. alum and steel never mixes well. like everyone said soak the holes (studs and center)with a good dose of pentrantant oil wd 40, pb blaster, anything you have around. then get under car with big hammer and hit the tire untill it loosens, you also have to chase where you hit around the tire , turn the wheel every now and then. it will come off. it is the shock of hitting it that brakes it loose. all the pulling in the world won;t do it.

WHEN you put the wheel back on or any time you mate alum to steel, add a coat of never seaze on the steel first. this will limit the bonding action or chemical reaction of alum against steel.

man some of you guys do some really carzy stuff

just spray WD-40 and hit (tap) all away around the tire with a 20 pounder. and if that dont do it hit the weights. it takes time make sure the tire has air in it. and hit the tire not the wheel.

Actually the real problem was posted by me, its not the aluminum rim bonding to steel, its sticking to the IRON drums that were used, so GM installed a STEEL spacer, you wont have any problems getting the rims off a car that still has the stock spacers.

i cant belive that the rims still wont come off, i had this happen with the rotor on my winter car , i used pbblaster and it finally came off . ALso what about using a torch to heat it up , like the little propane torch . Heat it up and i bet it will come off .

Actually, that's not true. The spacers were put on to "space" the wheel out......had nothing to do with keeping the wheel from sticking to the drum or disc.

If you haven't got the wheel off yet, try using some Kroil.....it's penetrating oil on steriods.....Good stuff. Keep at it, it will come off.

Wow.. this is one messed up story. I'm not familiar with the IROC wheels... but do the wheel centers come off? I can't tell if they do or not, but if they do, you can remove the bearing seals and just take the rotor off with the wheel.
I dunno man, I've never seen this happen.

I would suggest using the torch, just be careful where you heat and keep the temp low. Try to just heat the iron, not the aluminum itself or you can seriously weaken the metal if you overheat it.

I had the same problem with my Iroc wheels on my crappy Auto Zone drums. I got so pissed I was hitting the backside of the wheel full force with the sledge!

I got it off, but I think I just realized why I have a shudder on the highway

Does anyone have that video where some guy is trying to get his brake rotor off, or something like that. I think the car was an older honda. He was standing on a pipe that slide on to a breaker bar.

Pry tool is the way to go. If you go from the inside(with a crowbar with a pipe around it for leverage) it should break free. if not, try the outside, but you might mess up the wheel. The wheel has a small amount of "play" when just sitting on the lugs.

........This is what I do and it works without causing any damage. Just loosen the lugs, use wd-40 around the hub, let it soak for awhile. Start it up and put it in reverse and let the car roll back and then jump on the brake. You'll hear it snap loose. Works every time.........Zapr.

Yeah the guy who works at Discount tire doesnt know what hes talking about GO drive down the street with no lugs on and wait till it losens up HA and then you can roll it back on a jack when the wheel falls off (probably breaking your studs and damaging your wheel) and your car smashes into the ground adding a hell of a lot of damage along with it........ I deal with this a good bit since i work on cars all day long. What I usually do it soak the crap out of it with something like WD40 but PB blaster works the best, let it sit for about an hour, hit it a couple times to help work some penetrating oil in and then let it sot for a good while. Then have someone hold a long bar between the rotor or something else solid behind the rim and keep a decent amount of pressure on it. You then take a hammer and beat the daylights out of the inside of the tire on the opposite side of the bar and it should come off after awhile.I wouldnt use a torch on the things because you will be heating up a really soft metal that will probably worp on you thn the wheel wont be any good. If you think thats fun try getting an aluminum drum off the rear end of some cars since theres no way to get in behind it. Ohh and dont forget to start one lug back on there a couple threads while beating the rim or it can fly off, talking from experience there.

I just got my right front tire off 86 irocz28.
Wasnt easy taking the lug nuts off either
but the tire came off easy.

There was alot of white dust from the lug nuts coming
off the bolts I guess thats from aluminum touching steel?

I have drums also I have to get them off because
I have to bleed the brakes
Now I cant wait to try this Ive owned
this car only a few months.

I dont understand why just hitting it with a slege hammer
doesnt get it off thats just insane!
I like the one where the guy takes one tire and does
a hammer throw onto the stuck tire
you have to spin around 3 x times first and let it go
the guy threw the tire right threw his side windows
heheheahhah

I have this problem alot.I take a 4x4(wood) and hit the tire on the top and then the bottum--back and forth and the most times ive had to hit one is 3 times each part.Thats the safest way and most effective way ive ever found.

sounds like a special gm security feature just in case ALL the lugs fell off

what if you jacked the car up a nice bit and had the lugs on real loose and then dropped it (im not sure if your jack can do that) so it had alot of force commin down on it

Wow, I can't believe they still won't come off. This happens pretty often at work and I can usually get them off with some penetrating oil and a sledge hammer. But then again, I can lift the car high in the air to get more behind the swing than if I was laying on the ground. I usually soak it in penetrating oil, put one lug on loosely to keep it from flying off and start hitting the inside of the tire with the sledge, turning the wheel like 45* or so every few hits.
