GTA wheel dish

Steve383 on this board just got an 87 gta with the 16x8 gold crosslace pattern wheels. When looking at the car we noticed that the front wheel has a larger dish on it then the back wheel? Double checked with some pictures on the net and it seems thats the way its supposed to be.

Why would it be this way? Usually a larger dish on the rear wheels looks better. Wanted to just switch em but you cant cause of the offset difference.

That is normal, GM wanted a skinnier track in the rear for handling purposes I assume since the 16x8 Formula wheels are the same.

I went and got a set of 4 fronts for my cars,

did you have to use a spacer for the rears?

Its such a shame they look so much better with a big dish in the rear

no spacers required and this allows you to rotate the tires easier vs dismount and remounting tires.

Hehe, I could have told you about that, very reason I opted to get new gta wheels all 0 offset instead of used ones. Only known of spacers being used with the regular 16mm offset rear wheels that had drums.

Correct me if im wrong people but your rear tires are 0 offset and the fronts are 15, so no you cant switch them.

Im not sure why you can put a set of fronts on the rear, and you cant put a set of rears on the front, but i think thats how it is. But we still need answered if a set of fronts can go on the back of your car with the drum brakes

front's go on the rear with discs or drums. Spacer on the rear with drums were for either little more clearance or to keep the wheel from sticking to the drum. It was a pretty skinny spacer too from what I've read.
Front wheels are 0mm offset and the rears are like a -15mm offset, which brings the wheel in and that is the reason it won't go on the front, it will rub the tie rod end.

here is a shot of my formula with rear drums and front wheels on all 4 corners,
