Does this wheel info sound right to you guys?

My parents are tellin me that this wheel combo will not work and is gonna scrub on every turn........not only that but they said it was gonna mess my front end up. Well I just turn my nose up to that and would really fell better trusting your opinions(i know im close to being right).

Im gonna be getting the Boyd Coddington Daytona wheels with the "Soft Lip".

Front:18x8 With 4.75bs on 245/40/yr18(not sure what brand yet).

Back:18x9.5 with 5.5bs on 275/35/yr18

Now for you guys that know your rims and tires does this sound like a workable combo? Do the tire sizes sound right? Can they be alittle bigger without fear of scrubing? Im very open for suggestions.......remember this car is gonna be a daily driver not a weekender so I would like to have tires that will protect the wheels.

I'll be getting the wheels ordered just as soon as I can get to the bank to borrow the money.....that'll probably be a few weeks(2-3). So I'll bump this up every couple days or so to try and get the most feedback as possible.

Thx for taking the time to read:lala:

I don't see a problem with this combo. I have seen it many times on cars without a problem. It is cutting it close but it should work. Your ok in the rear, the front is going to be close but will work. Good luck. If your tire shop is like the one I work at they'll try it on for you FIRST, then if it clears then go for it.

Hey I don't want to hijack this thread in any way, but will that combo work but with 18x9.5 in front (as well as the back). The wheels I want are only available in 18x9.5. I could roll the fender and beat on the frame a little, would that make it work?

When you say im cutting it close what do you mean? Tire, wheel, or both? Could you possible suggest changes that would bump me over alittle more over into the safe side?

Thx for your time

The width of the rim is fine. The 18X8 will work. The 4.75BS should work. The tire is fine up front. If I am doing it right(calculating it)it should fit just inside the wheel well with no rub. Now if you go wider in the front(tire)well there will be some rub. A 245 is probably a safe bet to be the "max". If you put something bigger(255)that may be too close for comfort. I would stick to this current setup.
Kbeez stick with a 17X8 up front unless you plan to go bigger on the tire then you will have to get a bigger rim to set the beed correctly. 18X10.5 is do able but it all depends on the look, I don't lkike the way it bubbles out of the wheel well, so I would go 18X8 up front.
Also you can't rotate your tires anymore.

I run 275/40-17's on front and rear. I occasionally get some rubbing of the front drivers side wheel when turned to the lock and backing up over an uneven grade. I've looked to see what it is and there's a plastic rivet that gets snagged a bit by the corner of the tire. In my view, it's no big deal. My next set of tires will be 275/40-17's again. The 18's should be no different. HTH...

As you can see on Nolans car, the little change in Back Spacing will work for you.

Damn I love your car Nolan. Can I have it? lol

sure you can have the car , just come over and pick it up whenever you want... lol.

as far as your parents thinking it will rub , i can see the concern but they wont rub at all . I have the same specs as crazyhawaiian . So me crazy and kandied you can all talk to about what bs you need . But with the 4.5 and my drop i dont have any probs.

Btw have you checked out the hot rods for a set of rims.

Hey Nolan, the car looks great with those wheels, very clean!!

I have a 91 gta... soon to be painted electron Z06 blue... but I wanted to ask about your wheels, if you don't mind.

How much did you pay for them? Are they 18"?
And what is the backspacing on the rears?
Did you need adaptors or anything?
and how do you find the ride quality now?

Thanks man, sorry about all the questions, I just need to figure out how this whole backspacing thing works!

Thanks again, have fun!
