Anyone removed their "drip rails"?

In the process of preping the car for paint and I removed these 'drip rails' if you can call them that. The trim that runs along the roof above the door. Anyone left them off? I don't see that it would hurt much, as they do not have a channel like the old cars did to channel water away. I think it would smooth to car a little might look better, anyone?
