My '89 Camaros stock aluminum wheels need a refurbish. Most part of the wheels ist painted (whit basecoat/clearcoat?). The surroundings are shining matte (I guess with a clearcoat on it). I want to have them restorated, but I don't like to have the matte surroundings shining like chromed, I wanna keep the matte finish. Is it polished? I like the sock look, please give me some information about it. Thank you!

 

I think the 15" wheels are just cleat coated. As for the rest of what you said, I have not a clue. However those wheels look pretty badass polished. I found this picture on yahoo auctions not too long ago.

Depending on the year, they came differently. Originally in 82', they were painted silver or gold, and the edges and lips were machined. Later, they were still painted, but then cleared over the paint and the machined surfaces. When they were on the RS, they were only cleared(no paint) over the bare casting and the machined edges. Some RS's came with body color paint and clearcoat on the edges. So take your pick.

89 Transam GTA, a few bolt ons

 

The wheels were originally painted silver/grey.That is exept for the shiny part.
I may be able to find out what this color is.
