little flakes would be pearl and not flakes at all... metallic is even heavier and pretty much standard. if you had flakes it would look something like this with the larger specs of metal being noticable. larger flakes would look like a carnival ride or a bass boat. bass boat's use the largest flake known and techincally it's not available to the public.

thankfully...

lol I thought I was the only one who referred to too much flake as "looking like a bass boat"

the only downside i see to metallic is it's fading properties... if there was a way to have a heavy metallic paint job much like my kandy and not have it fade over time it would be perfect. for that reason alone i'm using pearls this time around.

doesn't matter... it helps... but you can't protect it unless it never sees sun and you never wash it. if it's a repaint and it's a tri-stage of any sort, particularly high metallic chances of it lasting more then 5-7 years is doubtful. again unless you never drive the car and it sits in a bubble.

I can't tell much from that picture, but my 84 has a blue metallic paint. It looks great on the roof, sides, and trunk, but the bumpers both are alittle bit darker and are peeling a little, and the hood paint is faded worse than the rest of the car. I think the heat from my motor fried the hood paint, and whoever painted the car before I had it didn't put the flex agent in for the bumper cover paint. The car is going to get painted again next year. Blue metalic again, but hopefully a little better this time. If the hood and bumpers were okay, it would look really nice. Can't wait to paint.

well then you'll be going in circles as it could be metallic or pearl and at least 65% of the pictures posted on this site have paintjobs similar, metal flake is completely different.

good luck with your search.

sounds to me as if you want a highly concentrated metallic paint job. unfortunately metallic paints are the hardest to photograph. my paint has the most metallic i could spray in a gun without jamming. i like it but such paint falls subject to the sun unlike pearls and standard paints.

I was thinking of painting my Z witha silver pearl with big flakes in the paint to give it a mirror effect is this pheasable or even desireable. I have a picture in my head but without seeing it in the flesh its hard. KAndied you seem to be the inhouse painter what do you think or any one else for that matter?

Ice pearl ? can anyone tell me what kind of car this came on. I have a dupont automotive finishing book in front of me. I can look it up fast if I knew the vehicle and year. there are a hugh amount of silvers. My painter said the big flakes come in a can that they add to the paint . I have been looking for a paint to mix them with. can any on help ?

The web site is not much help other than a brief discription. Any idea how much a quart for that stuff. I would have to calla dealer to find according to the site. Its sounds interesting. if its not crazy priced I may do it. I am not finding what I want in factory colors.

you can't have a mirror effect with your paint and have flake in it. look at the pictures of the car and the bowling ball, that's evidence enough.

"ice flake" ice pearl which is more common or in any case the word "ice" is associated with HOk (house of kolors) paints. it's just a term like "mystic", "chromeillusion", etc.

you will not find factory colors that bring these types of crazy results without mixing your own properties.
