polish iroc rims
I have 86' 16" IROC wheels with gold trim and I would like to know if it is possible for me to polish the entire rim. I'm on limited budget but have all X-mas break to do whatever. What steps and materials should I use? Anyone tried it?

I used this article as a guide. And I'm on my last wheel. I'm fairly happy with the results, didn't buy everything this article mentioned, but they still look pretty good. http://www.3rdgen.org/tech/

"John Boy" are you polishing the spokes and the stars. All the articles I find say not to spray the entire wheel with aircraft remover so as to not damage the painted part. I want the entire rim polished. Area that's painted as well. Is it possible to do?

Actually get the non-aersol form of the paint remover.
Then get a foam brush and slap as much as you can on each wheel covering everything.
Why ***** said not todo the painted parts cause he did the WS6 rims which are a pain to paint inside the fins. But since you arent painting them go nuts with the paint remover.
For an idea how the IROC rims will look heres my car with the middles painted gun metal grey.

Damn Kat... those rims look great from the picture. Why didn't you decide to go the extra mile and polish the spokes as well? What method did you use to polish. Hand, machine, or both? Did you cover with clear coat?

Thanks for the complements!! But they arent done "yet" I still need to get some white rouge comopund for it.
Yellow how I did it was both a combo of machine and hand.
I have a 1/4 sheet palm sander that I used when I did the rims.
1. Started it out stripping the rims with some paint remover
2. I used 240 grit wet with the plam sander just over all the flat spots and got rid of all the ridges that stuck up. Then I moved to my rubber sanding block and went over it by hand with the 240 grit. In this step you will use a lot of paper. I know I did.
3. I did what I did above with 320- 400 - 600 - 1000 - 1500. You can goto 2000 grit if ya want to.. I didnt casue I was too lazy LOL!
4. Then I got a 6 inch lambs wool buffing wheel for my drill and lots of Mothers polish and went over the flat spots like 4 times then by hand once.. Also too to get all the Mothers off I just used some wheel cleaner. I think it was that Quick Silver stuff. It cleaned the wheel right off. Thats how they turned out.
5. If ya want to paint it make sure the whell is nice, clean, and sanded very well!! I know I wish that I did casue I gotta redo a few spots from where the paint flaked off..
Umm why I didnt go the extra mile.. Mostly becasue my car is white(will be Pearl White next year) and I wanted some contrast with the paint and I wanted the spokes to stand out more so.. The #1 reason is casue I am lazy and didnt feel like doing it..
Total time spent doing it was about ummm 4 hours one day stripping the rims and then 3-4 hours for each wheel.
So their ya go.
Ohh yeah Only part I put clear coat on was the paint.. I used that candy apple laquer stuff ya get at pep boys.
Thanks again for the comps!!
