Rear Bumper Mod

Has anyone tried notching their rear bumper for their aftermarket exhaust tips? Any ideas on how to do it... or pictures?

I have been trying to come up with an idea that would look good for awhile now. There are a couple of problems though. The 3rd gen bumper tapers up which would expose some exhaust piping if not done correctly. Also, there isn;t any really good way to mount a thin body kit around the lower part of the bumper to give you some more room to work with. That is the way SLP did it on its LS1 SS cars. My buddy has this option on hi SS and I would like to see if I can find any of these tips. This was not a popular option and it is about impossible to find it since people tend to keep this look and just replace the muffler. I wonder if SLP sells it direct?

I would like to do something like his car

i believe SLP still sells the tips for that setup. if not SLP also sold a center exit setup with quad tips that looks like a C5 vette exhaust setup.

*EDIT*http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...53&BIG=30253-1

theres the aftermarket center mount setup. i just thought also, you may try search the for sale section of www.ls1tech.com to see using the term "CME" (center mount exhaust) to see if there are any on there. that package only came on teh top of the line "345hp" SS camaros in 02 only i believe so thats why its hard to find. even ls1.com and ls2.com might have something.

Hey thanks for the tips! I will look into that. I am not a fan of the quad exahust that is similar to this. RK sport sells it as well. This feature was an option and didn't have to come with the full blown SLP options. When he ordered his SS we sat down and checked the boxes that he wanted. You could pick and choose from a variety of stuff once you decided that you wanted an SS. The only SLP options he checked were the CE exhaust, and wheels.

I got a complete borla exhaust AND a Y pipe and 2 high flow cats for 200 bucks (FINALLY i get a good deal) and I love the quad tips. I know they would look better if they werent just hanging out in thin air.... And bumper covers are cheap from a pickapart, so I may pick one up to cut on.....

What about if you notched the cover and reinforced it with fiberglass if it was flimsy.... And then rounded the corners of the cutouts so it looks stock.... Wouldn't ou be able to fiberglass maybe a piece of fiberglass on the side so it had a interior lip like the stock one.... and then get some bondo or polyurethane repair stuff, gob it on and sand it so it was rounded and smoothed and looked factory notched.....

That was long and wordy, hopefully someone can figure out what i meant.... I'll try to use my terrible photoshop skills to come up with it..... Just making a notching in the orig. bumper that looks rounded and stockish.

that looks great IMO.. I too have a high rise wing but I don't think it will look as good on a '88 iroc.. the rear bumper doesn't have such a flare on the bottom as the 91-92 style.

So im gonna pick up a spare bumper cover.... Try cutting deep enough get the bottom of the tips to sit flush with the bottom of the bumper.... Anyone got suggestions on how much clearance around them i should leave so i dont melt the cover?

A solid 3/16" or 1/4" should suffice.
