What should i do?
ALright guys. i got a delmia, My clear coat is chipping (Its just the clear coat) The car was repainted once, but the PO took it to some one who did a crap job on the clear coat, i was thinking of taking a platic putty knife and scraping away the clear coat then waxing the paint its self. I was wondering if anybody has ever done this and if so, how good does it look? Thanks in adavance, ill post a pic of my paint job as soon as i get time

That's a pretty bad idea.
In these cars with base coat/clear coat system, bc is designed for two things: 1) to give color, and 2) to provide adhesion for the cc. Base coat by itself WILL NOT protect the metal from the elements or UV. I also doubt (although not sure about this) that it will buff well since the material was never designed to be touched by a buffer. Either way even if you can get it to look shiny, I have doubts how long it would actually last before paint starts bubbling from rust

) And its not shineing that well, as soon as i get some cash rolling in, im gonna get the car painted

Generally speaking, scraping off the clear coat is a bad idea. The clear is what gives you the shine. But if its already jacked up and you're planning to get it repainted soon, I dont see anything wrong with trying to make it look a little better for the time being. My IROC has a single stage paintjob with no clearcoat, but I used enamel to paint it, probably different from the base color on your car. And I primered it and painted good, so I haven't had any issues with rust. I do wax the car from time to time, but only on special occasions. Waxing the base coat will take some of the paint off, so if you do it too much you'll ruin it. My car only has 2 coats of paint, so I have to be very carefull. After waxing, my car looks much better and glossy, but still nowhere near as good as a car with a clearcoat. My main problem with my paintjob is waterspots. For the price (under $300) and usage of the car (track only), its working out good. But soon its gonna be getting a real paintjob with clearcoat.

If your clear coat is peeling don't pick at it. And you really shouldn't put wax on it, at least I wouldn't. Yes your local refinish technician will have special cleaner there may still be the chance of having wax in the paint. And that is a paint nightmare!!! Of course this is my opinion and I am really picky when it comes to painting a vehicle.

well i really dont have to pick at my clear coat.. everytime i wash the car more and more comes off (i cant stand a dirty car, even if the clear coat is coming off) And unfortunatly, if i dont get the job that im waiting for to let me know that im hired i might have to go with macco
although i do want to eventually get two gold raceing stripes to match my Gold stock Berlinetta rims (which also need to get repainted

you could sand the car with like a 600 grit and just clear it for the time being. it won't be perfect but it would be better than unprotected. the sanding step would be just to give the clear and paint some tooth for the clear to adhere to. its something you could do in your back yard in two days.
